Russia will not have its own private space company, KosmoKurs announced the closure
The company, which planned to build the first private cosmodrome in the Russian Federation in the Nizhny Novgorod region and make the first private commercial flight in 2025, announced that it was closing. RIA Novosti reports.
What kind of firm "CosmoCourse"
This company was founded back in 2014, and the plans were to carry out tourist flights to an altitude of 180-220 km. For these purposes, engineers assembled under the wing of the company began to develop a complex of a reusable launch vehicle and a reusable spacecraft designed for short-term stay in low-earth orbit, designed for six passengers and one instructor.
So it was planned to make up to 115 commercial launches per year and, thus, launch up to 700 tourists into space. At the same time, the estimated cost of the ticket would vary from 200 to 250 thousand US dollars per flight, passing only fifteen minutes, of which approximately five minutes the passengers would be in complete weightlessness.
But, as it turned out, such ambitious plans were not destined to come true.
Why the company announced the closure
The head of the Russian private company "CosmoCourse" P. Pushkin officially announced its closure. So, according to the head, insurmountable difficulties for the implementation of a private cosmodrome in the Nizhny Novgorod region and sending the first tourists on the first tourist flight, scheduled for 2025, began to coordinate the requirements for the cosmodrome project with local by the authorities.
For this reason, in March of this year, the company's engineers stopped absolutely all work on the development of the cosmodrome project.
In addition, another significant reason for the closure was the impossibility of obtaining from the Ministry of Defense the necessary regulatory documentation for the design work of a space rocket.
So, according to the director of the company, the specialists who worked in the company will be able to continue their activities, becoming part of a scientific institute under the control of Roskosmos.
