What to put in the hole when planting tomatoes
I plant tomato seedlings at different times, depending on the conditions of their growth. I try to plant tomatoes in the greenhouse in the first half of May.
I plant tomato seedlings in open ground (under a film) after May 20 (I live in the middle lane, south of Pskov area), when the soil is already warmed up enough (up to + 16- + 18 degrees), and the threat of return frosts is reduced to minimum.
What can be put in the holes when planting tomatoes?
Soil preparation
The ideal option is to prepare the beds for tomatoes in the fall. Tomatoes love neutral or slightly acidified soil. Therefore, I dig up the soil with ash and dolomite flour (chalk) to deoxidize the earth. In September, I sow siderates in the greenhouse and after a month and a half I dig up the ground.
Preparing seedlings before planting
A week before landing in the ground, I remove the two lower leaves so that the damage can heal to avoid infection. This is done so that the place without leaves gives more roots and food area.
Then I spray the seedlings with Epin to relieve stress from the cut plants.
What to put in the holes for tomatoes
Before planting tomatoes, I dig holes to the depth of a shovel bayonet. The planting scheme is 50 by 50 cm (for tall and medium-sized plants) and 30-40 cm (for low-growing crops).
I must spill holes. I pour 150 grams of superphosphate mother liquor into a bucket of hot water (so that the earth warms up better) (you need to pre-dissolve 100 grams of fertilizer in 1 liter of boiling water and insist for a day, periodically stirring).
I also add a spoonful of potassium sulfate to a container with water. Stir the mixture well and pour 3 liters of solution into each well.
Due to the warm water, plants grown in indoor conditions will not experience great stress, the roots will immediately fall into a comfortable environment for them (even despite hardening before planting).
It is better to avoid feeding tomatoes with nitrogen fertilizers (the bushes will fatten), for these plants you need to focus on phosphorus and potash fertilizers.
I also put 1 tbsp in the landing hole. a spoonful of dolomite flour (despite the fact that it has deoxidized the soil since autumn), 2 tbsp. tablespoons of wood ash, 2 tbsp. spoons of humus, 1 tbsp. a spoonful of bone meal.
I mix fertilizers in the hole. At the bottom of the hole, you can put the remains of green manure, which remained from the fall.
It is possible to pour into it a solution of "Fitosporin" and put a tablet of "Glyocladin".
Before planting, I spill tomato seedlings with water so that the earth in the containers is moist. I carefully take it out of the cups, transfer it to the hole and cover it with earth. I press the soil gently with my palms. Once again I spill it well with warm water. I take the pegs and tie the plants to them. I cover the top with agrofiber for shading from the sun.
Planting is best done in the evening or on a cloudy day.
What to do after landing
After planting in the ground, it is advisable to mulch the plants with peat, hay or cut grass, so that moisture remains longer.
I water it after 10-14 days. During this time, the tomato should grow a little root system.
