Problem

The task was to drill several dozen holes in the concrete wall for hanging furniture. The house is monolithic and concrete - well, very high quality. Only a 650-watt hammer drill is at hand. It was necessary to drill for dowels 10 * 80. For a weak, cheap drill, the task is very difficult!

I bought new drills from Styer. Not the cheapest, but not the best either. Started to work. The drill went into the wall about a centimeter tightly and stopped. I thought that I had got rubble and I will deal with this hole later, but now I will move on to others. But with others, things did not go better - the drill also rested across a centimeter.

I started to press harder on the instrument. The drill heats up, makes noise; there was a smell of burnt plastic - apparently, the brushes were working for wear. The drill is also hot. As a result, the matter got up. The wall is strong and how to drill without a normal punch, the devil knows! I started looking for a way out of the situation.

Decision

He remembered how to drill large holes in metal if the power of the tool is not enough. First with a thin, and then with a thicker drill. I decided to try the same method. After installing the skirting boards, a drill with a diameter of 5 mm remained. I also bought an eight as an intermediate.

In the end, things went well. It was drilled first to the full depth with a five, then an eight, and after a ten. The most difficult work was with a thin drill, and the intermediate and extreme ones entered the wall easily. The drill no longer warmed up.

Problems arose after about the tenth hole. The drill five began to squeal and get very hot. I bought a new one. In general, I changed three drills of five for forty holes. But even then, I believe that it is much cheaper than renting a good powerful hammer drill.
