Why didn't they produce cars with a drive like that of BelAZ before? E-POWER system 3.5 l / 100 km

Anyone familiar with heavy mining equipment knows that huge dump trucks are driven by electric motor wheels. And electricity is generated by a generator driven by an internal combustion engine.

It is a very reliable and economical system. The internal combustion engine works in the optimal mode, it is not overloaded. There is no mechanical drive: gearbox, propeller shaft, reduction gear in axles (reducing efficiency). Energy in BelAZ or any other mining dump truck is converted into wheel rotation with minimal losses. Moreover, electric motors allow you to get a huge torque through gearboxes.

Also, everyone who is interested in electric vehicles knows about the dynamics of this type of car. For cars with internal combustion engines, such accelerations are achieved only at powers of 300 hp or more. But a huge shortage of electric vehicles in our time is low mileage on a single charge (up to 300-400 km for top-end units) and a long charge time, especially if charged from a household network.

Against the background of these systems, I had a question for a long time: why is it impossible to transfer the drive principle, as in large mining dump trucks, to passenger cars? Is it expensive or difficult?

The ice has broken with the advent of hybrid drive vehicles. In the urban cycle, they can significantly reduce fuel consumption, because in traffic jams, for example, the wheels are driven by an electric motor, and the internal combustion engine is idling. Some automakers have gone even further and still implemented the drive like a large quarry vehicle.

For example, this has been done in the Nissan Note and Nissan Serena models with e-POWER (sequential hybrid system).

These cars have internal combustion engines with a capacity of about 80 h.p. rotates the generator, and he feeds the electric motor driven by wheels through a gearbox. There is also a battery for peak power consumption surges (up to 1.8 kWh). This allows you to obtain a large torque up to 320 Nm and fuel consumption 2.5-3.8 l / 100 km. The mileage on one tank is 3 times more than that of similar cars with a mechanical drive from an internal combustion engine. Brief characteristics of the power unit of cars:

Perhaps other manufacturers have models with similar systems. And they appeared much earlier, but were not massive. In Russia, however, Nissan with the e-POWER system - you can only buy running, right-hand drive cars brought from Japanese auctions. Price for Nissan Serena with e-POWER system - from 1.8 million rub.

According to the owners of such cars, fuel consumption depends on the speed. The more traffic jams, the less consumption. On the highway, the consumption rises to 6.5 l / 100 km. Examples of fuel consumption here: https://e12noteclub.ru/viewtopic.php? t = 1127

The most popular and affordable electric car, the Nissan Leaf, is not officially on sale either. I think that cars with low fuel consumption with such an e-POWER system would be popular with us. After all, they are also easy to maintain, there is no automatic transmission. Many automatic transmissions in a variator or with a box in a robotic design do not withstand even 200 thousand kilometers. km of run.

It seems that there is one thing in the minds of both manufacturers and their dealers - cars should break down and they should be replaced after 100-150 thousand. mileage. Well, they don't have to be economical either. Although, technical solutions for how to simplify everything and make it as economical as possible, do not require complex maintenance for a long time. Do you think this is the main answer or are there some other reasons for the lack of low-fuel vehicles?
