The hazel grouses are uninvited guests, but they turned out to be welcome

It was many years ago. We began to do weeding near the country gate. And hooked on an unfamiliar plant. It did not remain silent, answered with an unpleasant smell. "Well, why do we need this?" - thought the owner. He began to dig to throw it away. Looks: root is a bulb. "Once the onion, then it will come in handy." And he planted her on a site away from the path. You understand that the aroma was not expected to be the best.

A couple of years have passed. Once in the spring we arrived at the dacha, and there was an unusually beautiful flower. While they were admiring and wondering who the guest was, they caught the very smell that was at the onion outside the gate.

They began to ask all our acquaintances what kind of miracle. One old lady said it was the Royal Lily. They began to call her that. And after 20 years they learned that it was the Imperial Hazelnut or fritillaria, of the Liliaceae family.

This was the story of our friend from the Baltic states. The photo is his too. And I learned the rest of the information.

  • Grouse scare away mice, they are even planted specifically for this purpose near valuable plants. It is believed that there are no mice within a radius of half a meter from each plant. In fact, a friend of some rats made a central migration passage next to these flowers, apparently sniffing. It has been migrating for several years.
  • Many people complain that the Imperial Grouse does not bloom. The reason is that next year only large bulbs bloom, which are about half a kilogram. The rest are gaining mass. May bloom in the 4th or 5th year.
  • And, of course, you need a very fertile soil, without weeds.
  • Since the bulbs are large, they are planted deeply, up to 25 cm. This also helps from freezing.
  • Grouse bloom in May, no longer than three weeks. Friends' buds began to bloom on April 28
  • It is advised to dig up the bulbs after flowering and plant them again in mid-August. Friends did nothing, and this beauty grows by itself:
