Home glue - suitable for all occasions: 3 simple grandfather's recipes

Yes, I know, now you can buy anything in the store. But it was not always so. Even in my childhood, sometimes I made glue myself at home. Let me be astalgic. All recipes, by the way, are working. If you need to glue something, and there is no suitable glue at hand, feel free to use it.

These are the ingredients for making glue according to grandfather's recipes.

DIY glue

The easiest flour recipe:

  • water - 1.5-2 cups;
  • flour - 2-4 tablespoons.

Pour flour into water. Mix thoroughly. Bring the mixture to a boil over low heat. We give the opportunity to cool down.

We called this glue paste. Parents pasted wallpaper for them. First, the walls were pasted over with an old newspaper, and then with clean wallpaper. So everything held on tight.

We, children, used such a paste in the manufacture of various crafts. They glued papier-mâché. They made various crafts from yarn. They dipped threads into glue, wound them on a glass jar, bottle or old light bulb. When it hardens, filmed. It turned out vases and Christmas tree decorations.

Wood glue from scrap materials

I don't know if it is used now, but old carpenters will definitely remember casein glue. In case someone didn't know, casein is a derivative of milk protein. It can be made from regular milk. However, let's not set up a chemical laboratory at home, let's take fat-free cottage cheese.

Wood glue recipe:

  • low-fat cottage cheese - 100 g;
  • slaked lime - 100 g;
  • water - a lot.

First of all, we need to get casein from cottage cheese. To do this, soak the cottage cheese in a large amount of water and knead it thoroughly. Stir the solution and filter it through a cotton cloth filter. We repeat the process several times. We dry the "curd mass" (casein) - yellowish crystals are obtained. You can store them as long as you like.

Grind the casein in a coffee grinder. We weigh it and add the same amount of slaked lime by weight. The result is a semi-finished product for making glue. Mix with water 1: 1 before use. Pot life is low - needs to be used quickly.

Such environmentally friendly glue was previously used in carpentry. Grandfather made window putty out of it. Yes, there were no double-glazed windows before.

All-purpose adhesive for anything porous

There is one limitation. For the glue to hold well, the surface must be at least somewhat porous. It will not work for gluing glass or plastic. But great for wood, leather, ceramic tiles and anything else.

The last time I used this kind of glue was to stick ceramic tiles flying off the wall. In the corners, I laid pieces of foam plastic about 2x2 cm in size. I dripped acetone on them. Acetone melts the foam and turns it into a gooey mass. Attached the tiles to the wall - you're done. Keeps tight.

This recipe, like the previous ones, is grandfather's. Now there are some limitations when choosing components. For example, it is better to use pure acetone, rather than solvents based on it, where acetone itself is a small percentage. We use classic polystyrene foam as foam. Although it is rare on the market, there is already a modern modification of PVC-based foam. It won't do.

That's all for me today. If the material was useful to you, do not forget about the "thumbs up" 👍. Subscribe to a channel here.
