One of the most powerful multipurpose nuclear submarines of the fourth generation was commissioned in Russia

As it became known, just a few days ago the Navy received a multipurpose nuclear submarine codenamed K-561 "Kazan". This submarine is one of the most powerful and sophisticated ships of this class in the world.

Solemn transfer of the submarine after sea trials

The ceremonial transfer of the nuclear submarine in the K-561 Kazan cruise missiles took place in Severodvinsk at the Sevmash enterprise.

This submarine of project 885M ("Yasen-M") "Kazan" was launched on March 31, 2017. The full range of factory sea trials started on September 25, 2018, which the submarine withstood with dignity.

The main striking force of "Kazan" (as well as all ships of the project 885 / 885M) are cruise missiles "Caliber", as well as multipurpose anti-ship "Onyx". And in the future, a unique supersonic complex "Zircon" will be installed on this class of submarines.

What is known about Kazan

All the characteristics and parameters of the submarines related to the Yasen-M project are strictly classified, but this fact does not prevent a variety of experts from expressing their assumptions.

So, according to the version of the leading analyst of the US Department of Defense Intelligence Agency K. Karlson, K-561 is somewhat shorter than previous versions (submarine K-560 "Severodvinsk") by about 10 meters.

In addition, a change in armament took place on the Kazan. So if the K-560 has 10 torpedo tubes and 8 launchers for cruise missiles, then the K-561 already has 8 torpedo launchers and 10 launchers for cruise missiles.

Project 885 and its competitors

K-561, designed according to project 885, belongs to the fourth generation of submarines, the main feature of which is increased noiselessness. This makes such submarines extremely dangerous for a potential enemy, as they are capable of approaching almost any objects unnoticed at a distance of 100% damage.

Yasen, as well as Yasen-M, is so far the only 4-generation multipurpose submarine in the Russian Federation. And only the United States can boast of such submarines (they have the famous multipurpose submarines Seawolf, as well as Virginia).

But I would like to note that the Russian Federation also has a strategic submarine of project 955 "Borey", which there are simply no analogues at the moment.

The commissioning of a new submarine indicates that the Russian Federation still occupies a leading position in this area and, therefore, is ready to defend its interests around the world.
