Whitefly in the garden and vegetable garden: how to deal with a pest, how to spray plants

If a whitefly appears on your site, you need to urgently fight it, because it multiplies quickly and sucks out the juices from plants. It is difficult to notice, since the insect is very small (no more than 3 mm in length) and sits on the back (lower) side of the leaves, lays its eggs.

You need to deal with the whitefly systematically, with repeated treatments. The insect appears in April and early May. I find her in strawberry beds and under the shelter of roses.

I recommend checking the undersides of the leaves in the spring. I noticed that even severe frosts do not care for her, she winters well outside the greenhouse. The pest adapts well to local conditions.

Drugs that are effective against whitefly

I can offer to use systemic preparations of complex action: "Aktara", "Tanrek", "Iskra", "Commander", "Confidor", "Biotlin", "Decis", "Fitoverm Forte", "Bitoxibacillin". The last two biological insecticides are effective against ticks and can be used when the ovaries have already formed on the plants. I use systemic preparations on seedlings, eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, strawberries before flowering.

You can also purchase special sticky traps that are hung in the greenhouse. In April, before planting vegetable crops, gardeners often use a tobacco stick. Acrid smoke will enter the hidden corners of the greenhouse and destroy the whitefly and other pests. Doors and windows are closed to kill unwanted insects (if poisoned in the evening, then closed all night).

Folk remedy for fighting whitefly

Pharmaceutical turpentine copes well with harmful insects. To prepare a solution, you should take 1 liter of warm water, 25 grams of dry yeast, grate 100 grams of laundry soap. All ingredients must be thoroughly mixed.

The resulting solution must be poured into a ten-liter bucket of water. Stir the mixture again and pour in 0.5 liters of pharmacy (gum) turpentine (not technical). With significant damage to crops, this mixture will be less effective.

The resulting solution must be sprayed on berry bushes or vegetable crops on the leaf. Whiteflies will be disoriented by the smell.

I do not recommend using the turpentine mixture on cucumbers, as the leaves of the plant may dry out.

Systemic drugs are not safe, but they are considered to be more effective. But you can also use folk remedies that help mainly with a small number of pests.
