If you do not know what a "vernier" is, then you do not know how to use a caliper. I learn the intricacies of the instrument.
This article will be a test for all specialists who consider themselves to be such. And I seem to be, after three years of self-construction, still a "green newbie".
Friends, I am glad to welcome you to my channel. Perhaps many of the shaft will only laugh at the information that will come later... Although I still hope that someone will be a little enlightened. In any case, I will be satisfied.
Although for me all this is amazing ...
How did I live to be 32 years old, and only now have I learned how to really use such a simple device as a caliper?
I used to think that this is just such a "more convenient ruler", which can be used to more accurately measure some volumetric details.
But then I needed to make a fairly accurate measurement (in fractions of a mm), and I was surprised to find out that this can be done with a caliper, or rather using a special scale that he has, called "vernier".
By the way, I measured the diameter of the cable cores from different manufacturers (for comparison). I already wrote more about this experiment, look on the channel.
Measurement is very simple.
- We look at whole millimeters on the main scale.
- And the shares are on the vernier. It is necessary to find which of the marks of the vernier scale, clearly tore off one of the marks of the main scale.
In my example, a vernier caliper shows about 1.35 mm.
Of course, this is not ideal accuracy, since each person can interpret the result in his own way (the eye is different for everyone). But for household tasks - behind the eyes.
