How to Prepare Dill Seeds for Sprouting in 3-5 Days: 2 Proven Ways
Usually dill, sown in the open field, rises in two weeks; in bad weather conditions, it takes up to 20–24 days to wait for sprouts. But there are effective proven methods that allow you to get seedlings in 3-5 days, and after one and a half - two weeks to collect the first crop. How to make dill grow faster - read on.
What prevents the germination of dill
The seeds of umbrella plants, which include dill, contain a large amount of essential oils that act as germination inhibitors. Simply put, essential oils block moisture from entering the seed, which significantly slows down germination.
How to make dill rise faster: 2 ways
In order for dill seeds to sprout faster, you need to rid them of essential oils. There are several ways to do this, but we will tell you about two of the simplest, most effective and proven ones.
Method one
The seeds should be soaked for 2-3 days in cold water and during this time the water should be changed frequently. The frequency of water changes is 5–8 times a day. Thus, the essential oils are washed out, and the seeds are abundantly moisturized.
The process can be made easier by placing the dill seeds in a gauze knot and placing it in the toilet cistern. Frequent water changes are thus guaranteed. After soaking, the seeds must be dried so that they do not stick together, and then sowed.
Method two
This method can be called heat treatment, since the seeds must be placed in water heated to 70–80 ° C. The seeds are also placed in a gauze knot and dipped in hot water for 3-5 seconds. Immediately thereafter, they should be rinsed for 15–20 seconds in cold water. Repeat the procedure at least 10 times.
After the procedure, leave the seeds in the bundle for 2-3 days. The gauze must be constantly moistened to keep the seeds in a comfortable, humid environment. Further, as in the first method, the seed must be dried, and you can sow.
Sow dill seeds into grooves no more than one centimeter deep. Water abundantly after planting. Dill loves warmth and for this plant you should choose beds on the sunny side of the garden. In cold weather, a greenhouse can be made over a bed of planted dill.
