How can you make a really soundproof partition
As the wall was filled with soundproof cotton wool, the clearly audible conversation behind the wall turned into an indistinct boo-boo-boo.
Several years ago I made a frame extension to my house. For a long time, one large room was divided into rooms by a wall of wardrobes. On the one hand, it is convenient: spacious wardrobes in two rooms, saving space, but on the other hand, no sound insulation.
This year we decided to make a normal partition and really isolated rooms.
For sound insulation, I decided to take the Knauf Acoustic. I am already familiar with Knauf insulation, I used it in construction. As a heater in Siberia, it has shown itself to be excellent.
As far as I have previously studied the information on this insulation, it is made without the use of formaldehyde resins, which is good when used in residential premises. And this is essentially glass wool, but you can safely take it with unprotected hands.
Of course, it is still better to work with it in a mask and gloves, but you can simply shift the sheets or straighten them during installation with your bare hands.
This material is easily cut with a sharp knife and there are no problems with cutting. It is also quite elastic and the openings can be filled even with small pieces, while leaving no empty areas.
As for the partition. The walls of the room are wooden. The frame of the partition was also made of wood.
At the base of the frame, I used a 100x50 mm bar. section. I screwed the bars to the walls, to the floor and to the ceiling. Fastened through a 10 mm polyethylene foam gasket. thick. Further, after 40 cm. put racks from the same bar.
First, on one side, I attached a protective membrane to the frame, and then fixed the drywall in two layers.
Then he began to fill the partition with Knauf Acoustic soundproofing in two layers with overlapping sheets.
As the wall was filled with soundproof cotton wool, the clearly audible conversation behind the wall turned into an indistinct boo-boo-boo.
Further, there is also a protective membrane and two layers of drywall.
Immediately I conducted a small test: in one of the rooms behind the partition I turned on loud music.
No sound came through the new wall. The music was heard only through the open doorways of the rooms. That is, the sound only went through open doors.
conclusions
This noise isolation really does the job of keeping the noise out. My expectations for soundproofing were met completely.
And this is not an advertisement, but a real experience, and perhaps this information will be useful to someone.
