The kosher way to bury the sewer 50 cm so it won't freeze
My senior mentor and first supervisor at the construction site was named Yakov Izrailevich Krimshtein. He was a man with a traditional crooked nose, a cunning squint and an incredible intelligence and resourcefulness.
In the difficult Soviet times, the foreman managed to build a house with an area of 60 "squares" at his dacha, while the allowed fourteen. Moreover, not a "bulk", but a solid house from a bar.
It was he who told me how to make sure that sewer labor, buried even half a meter in the ground, would not freeze even in a cold, snowless winter. I will share the method with you.
It is necessary to take into account three points when laying, two of which many know, and the third is forgotten or underestimated:
- good slope: do not believe the authors who write that with a slope of 2 centimeters per meter, the pipe does not freeze. Their pipes lie at a depth of 2 meters, nothing will freeze there. At least 4 centimeters per meter (especially if the house is on a hill and the septic tank is below) - and let the contents of the pipe fly away as if you had a vacuum sewer.
- ventilation: other clever people save on the funnel pipe - they take a gray pipe of the 50th diameter instead of the 110th one. They get an unpleasant odor in the house + poor absorption of drains. And below is an interesting fact:
- good insulation of the caisson itself: many people throw 50-100 mm of expanded polystyrene on top of the sewer pipe directly into the ground, but do not want to make normal insulation of the upper well.
And now how it works:
- a good slope and the required diameter of the fan pipe create excellent traction - the drains quickly "fly away" to the lowest point and simply do not have time to cool down, accumulate and turn into an ice plug.
- insulation of the upper part leads to the fact that in the upper part of the septic tank there are stable + 6-7 degrees of heat. Warm air moves up the fan pipe, heating it up as well.
Under such conditions, the sewer pipe can be safely buried by 50 centimeters - it will not freeze!
