Column masonry from blocks with internal reinforcement. Why did I put this structure indoors?
According to the project, a brick stove chimney will pass between the floor slabs. To do this, in the project, I left the distance between the slabs 50 cm, also left an opening for the pipe and poured a reinforced monolithic section. An article about it here
But since a partition wall will pass through this monolithic section, I decided to strengthen this beam by supporting it with a column.
There will be a column to the right of the opening for the chimney. There is no time to cast it in the formwork. Since 2019 I had hollow blocks cast during the construction of the fence. And I decided to use it.
Using a laser level, I marked the exact position of the first block under the hole in the monolithic area, left for ventilation. The first block should be located strictly below it.
Unfortunately, the block did not hit the "edge" on the foundation. I had to shift it a little. And then - everything is like when laying fence blocks on a solution. Hands remember what they say. Pre-knocked out the bottom at the extreme hollow channel in the block - it will be reinforced.
The column will not stand alone in the middle of the room. There will be a brick oven on the edge of it.
I cut the reinforcement into 1 m each and stuck it in with an overlap when pouring the hollow channel. It was easier to lay the masonry this way. If the fittings are installed at the height of the room - 3 m, then it will be almost impossible to put the block on it alone.
The position of each block was checked with a laser level from both sides, directing the beam at an angle. The block geometry is not perfect. Therefore, it was necessary to control the level.
At the very top, I installed a ventilation duct (corner element). This part will be poured through an adjacent hole in the monolithic area between the slabs.
I installed the formwork, pulling it off with self-tapping screws and wire. And through the hole he reinforced with the last pieces of reinforcement and poured concrete, vibrating with a deep vibrator. Ventilation inside the formwork was sealed with tape in advance - otherwise the concrete will get inside.
Three days later, he removed the formwork and knocked out the ventilation passage (0.5 cm of concrete). Short roller with column laying process:
This column is only a safety node for a monolithic section. The slabs at the edges have a trapezoidal geometry and the beam will not be able to bend even by a millimeter. But in order not to load the edges of the slabs with the weight of the partition wall, such a solution was applied. Well, ventilation is still hidden inside the column.
