I show what happened to the ecowool on the ceiling after 8 years
At the beginning of the article, I will tell you why I chose ecowool for insulation. With this material, I insulated the attic floor of the bath. At that time, the main criteria for me were: the price of the material and its free transportation in my car.
In 2010 the cost of ecowool was 1400 rub / m3 (5 bags). The bag weighs ~ 9 kg. In two flights, I transported 16 bags (for 2 floors - I insulated the floors and the attic). Ecowool was packed in ordinary bags:
The material is made from cellulose waste. To protect it from burning, cellulose is treated with borax fire retardants (up to 7% in the composition), and for protection against mold, rodents and insects - with boric acid (up to 18%). Ecowool also has low thermal conductivity coefficients from insulation - 0.039 (W / m * K).
The material really looks like finely crushed cotton wool, only of gray color. I put it simply: I poured a bag into a box, loosened it with a mixer (attachment for a drill) and poured it out of the box onto the floors. I crushed it a little with my hands. There are services for blowing out ecowool using pneumatic equipment. Ecowool then lays down more tightly.
To prevent the material from being blown by the wind in the cold attic and dust getting into it, the birds did not pull the ecowool (whether it would be of interest to them - I did not know), covered it with steam insulation. Eight years later, the view in the attic of the bathhouse is as follows:
In strong winds, something blew out a little at the base of the rafters. But under the vapor barrier everything is the same as 8 years ago:
The upper centimeter layer of ecowool was slightly compacted. And below, in the depths - it is still the same loose. Nothing happened to the insulation. Small birds entered the attic through metal roof overhangs. But ecowool was not interesting to them. They hunted for hornets' nests. But the mineral wool in the passage system aroused interest in them:
They pull it apart for nests, like tow from a log house.
Nowadays, with a significant increase in prices for building materials, other options have to be overestimated. If someone for his frame house (or for insulating floors) thought to use a miniplate, then you can also consider mineral wool with its blowing into the walls (or under the film on the ceilings) with pneumatic equipment.
