China admitted that the radiation background at the Taishan NPP was exceeded
Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and the Environment of the Celestial Empire issued a confirmation statement in which reported that an increase in radiation levels was indeed recorded at the first power unit of a nuclear power plant Taishan.
But the authorities categorically rejected reports published in the media about an alleged leak in the reactor, as well as exceeding the maximum permissible level of radiation in the immediate vicinity of the station.
So literally the other day on the American television channel CNN there was a message that the representatives of the United States for a week check information about the so-called "imminent radiation threat" at a nuclear power plant Taishan.
Representatives of the French company Framatome, which are co-owners of this station, complained about direct violations of the NPP operation by Chinese specialists.
According to the Framatome representatives, the Chinese regulator (National Nuclear safety) carried out an increase in the permissible limits of the radiation level outside the territory of the NPP in order to avoid closing it.
So, according to the French, this very limit was at least doubled. But representatives of the Chinese side categorically denied this information. And according to their statement, due to the influence of factors that cannot be controlled during the production of fuel, during transportation, loading and other links are almost inevitable damage to some fuel cells (rods).
Thus, the main unit contains more than 60,000 fuel rods and the percentage of damaged ones does not exceed 0.01%, which is significantly below the permissible limit of 0.25%.
Well, let's hope that this is a "false alarm" and everything is really good at the nuclear power plant, and all processes are reliably controlled, which means that there will be no catastrophic consequences in principle.
