Plastic fences are a reality! PVC profiled sheet is gaining popularity
Tough times call for unconventional solutions. And now, with a sharp and rather significant rise in the price of building materials, people involuntarily began to pay attention to any cheap alternative. A plastic decking appeared in the field of view, which had not been heard about ten years ago. Let's try to figure out whether this material can really compete with the metal profiled sheet.
What is this material
Plastic corrugated board is a sheet made of polyvinyl chloride, with additives introduced into the composition, increasing strength, elasticity, flexibility, as well as providing resistance to ultraviolet and aggressive Wednesdays. Longitudinal trapezoidal corrugations are made on the sheets, which impart rigidity to the material. In appearance, plastic corrugated board practically does not differ from metal, with the exception of the thickness, which varies from 1 to 2 mm.
The weight of the plastic counterpart also differs from the metal counterpart: from 1.75 to 2.3 kg / m² for PVC, versus 3.84-4.27 kg / m² for metal. The difference is palpable. But there is no such significant difference in cost. On the Internet you can find offers for the sale of this material at a price of 450 rubles. per square meter. Substandard plastic sheeting is sold at a price of 250 rubles / m².
A little about the characteristics and claimed benefits
The first trump card of manufacturers of plastic profiled sheet is durability, since plastic does not rot, rust or decompose. This is true, and here he beats metal.
The second trump card is lightness. And you can't argue with that either - compared to steel, PVC material is quite light, and this is the convenience of transportation and installation. In addition, by reducing the weight of the material, you can save on the supporting structure.
The third claimed advantage is durability. Various videos show how a plastic sheet is run over by a truck and is "beaten" with a hammer. And it seems that it successfully resists these tests - after deformation it restores its shape, but does not crack from a hammer.
But here it is already possible to argue. A new material is being tested, which is, so to speak, in ideal conditions. And plastic, as you know, does not tolerate long exposure to ultraviolet radiation very well and does not like frost at all. Will he retain such qualities after three or four years in the southern sun, or what will happen to him if he is hit with a hammer at twenty-five degrees of frost? There is no information about this, but there are reviews and comments from people who assure that after three to five years of operation, this material significantly loses its strength.
And also manufacturers assure about the resistance of their material to certain aggressive environments - resistance to acids, alkalis, alcohols and salts. That's all well and good, but how does it compare to a conventional fence or roof? Is it really acid rain that we have to say so loudly about it? A slightly dubious advantage ...
Another obvious plus of the analogue is sound insulation. Here, too, you can not argue, since plastic does not rattle like metal. In this respect, it also outperforms steel corrugated board.
Against the background of a general rise in price, this alternative looks attractive and this material is gaining more and more popularity. Plastic fences are now a reality. But can PVC create an alternative to traditional materials?
