To begin with, comrade, remember: lily blooming - a sign that the plant needs special care BEFORE the end of the season. Naive summer residents think: "Has faded - and God is with her! Let the flock of lilies stand like a green mass by themselves. " A smart summer resident knows: from the moment of flowering to September, adult bulbs and lily babies ripen.

The beauty of a lily next year is directly proportional to the care effort expended last year. Blooming is a screaming signal that it's time to put "Mother-in-law's language" on the coffee table by the TV, and, reluctantly staggering, go to the garden.

Taking care of the stems: small stuff, but really important

The stems and leaves of a lily are the most important tool in a plant's life. After the onion, of course. And it will be, first of all, greens that will nourish it with useful substances. Later we will come to the flower garden with our own dressings ...

Therefore, comrade:

• Don't be tempted to collect a beautiful bouquet of lilies for your home. But do not cut off the shoots, leaving "at the root" not less than 1/3 of their height. Half is desirable if the remaining stem length fits your vase.
• Tie up lily stems if they are unstable. There is nothing worse if it breaks under the wind or the weight of the flower.

Friendly advice: So that the lilies stand in a strong mass like elephants, and not dangle in the wind, like a rag in an ice hole, plant them under the sun. The best time for transplanting and breeding by dividing the nest will come very soon - at the end of summer.

We comply with the watering schedule

From the moment the buds are set until the end of flowering, lilies need sufficient watering. Lily, being a plant resistant to drought - by right of bulbous nature, will not die without watering. But the flowers will fade much faster, and there will be fewer buds.

Interesting fact: There is a practice of removing the buds of the stamens, which will increase the lifespan of the flower. But, of course, I will not do such nonsense myself.

Water the lilies immediately when the ground has dried a couple of centimeters. Do not fall on the petals, otherwise their appearance will become spotty.

Top dressing for the future

The last step to the longed-for leisure with "Mother-in-law's tongue" in the armchair is feeding the lily. It can be made both immediately after flowering and within 2 weeks after. Potassium, which is so necessary for the ripening of bulbs - large and small, comes to the fore, and phosphorus, which was spent on this magnificent flowering.

Top dressing options:

• Free, angry, environmentally friendly and not very effective - sprinkle generously with wood ash on the lilies. In the rain or watering, so that the wind does not spread the food around.
• Any complex mineral fertilizers, where there is a lot of phosphorus and potassium, and less nitrogen. Trace elements in the composition are welcome! Hint: "For blooming", "For roses", "For magnolias" and others are suitable if the composition of phosphorus and potassium predominates over nitrogen! Apply, of course, according to the instructions.
• Dissolve 1.5 tablespoons of superphosphate and potassium sulfate in a small amount of warm water and pour into 10 liters. Water based on 10 liters per 1 sq. m. Calculation, which I myself never adhere to and prefer to water by eye.
