Which is better and cheaper: glue or foam for laying aerated concrete (consumption and comparison)

click fraud protection

Many people are now building houses from aerated concrete blocks. This material is one of the cheapest on the market.

Do not use cement and sand mortar (DSP) for laying blocks. Suitable special. glue and foam. Which one is better and cheaper?

Adhesive for aerated concrete

So that the seams do not crack, do not become cold bridges and warm air does not come out of the building, only glue for gas blocks is used.

This glue has some advantages: low thermal conductivity, a thinner layer is obtained (thickness no more than 2-3 mm), the moisture content of gas blocks does not change when water is added. Plastic glue with good adhesion. It hardens without shrinkage and sets quickly. Contains: cement, sand, various additives, fillers. You can work with such glue even at sub-zero temperatures.

There are 2 types of glue: thin layer and thick layer. The first is used to lay the material without deformations and chips. Apply a layer of 2 mm. The second version of the glue for a thickness of 10-14 mm. The glue is intended for laying material with chips, surfaces with deformation.

With the help of glue (its thickness), the blocks are aligned at the desired height. Clay is also subdivided into winter and summer.

Foam for aerated block

In addition to glue, there is also foam for gas blocks. It is a foamed mass similar to polyurethane foam. However, there are differences in chemistry. composition. There is no water in the composition, so it quickly hardens and you can work in frosts (up to minus 10 grams). Plus foam in the carriage. You can just come, buy and put it in the trunk and bring it to the construction site. Installation time increases significantly. No need to knead glue, use a construction mixer. There is no dirty work.

Disadvantages of foam

Used only for buildings no more than 2 floors. The foam dries quickly (about 2-4 minutes) and requires skill to level the blocks. The foam is only suitable for laying flat blocks. The downside is still in the price. The foam costs several times more. At slight increases in temperature, the foam emits harmful substances, crumbles in the light. Foam is only effective for stacking partitions.

Foam and glue consumption (comparison)

If the aerated concrete blocks are 625x300x250, then 200 pieces of blocks will require about 92 bags of glue, 25 kg each.

Foam consumption: 1 cylinder per 12 m2 of aerated concrete. But one canister costs about 500 rubles.

My opinion: it is cheaper and more common to use glue in bags for laying the walls of the house.
