Blind area "castle": the concrete worker told the secret way of the blind area so that the house does not wash away (cheap, durable)
Many people believe that the blind area is not needed and does not play any role. This is wrong. The blind area is an integral part of the entire structure. In addition to the foundation, the blind area prevents the soil from getting wet.
Basic moments
The blind area is hidden and open. Open is when a platform is made of concrete, tiles, stone or other material around the perimeter of the building.
The hidden one is created using a PVC membrane, which is fixed to the walls of the basement, and is covered with geotextiles from above. After this place is filled with backfill. Next comes a layer of soil, on which beautiful plants or just a lawn are planted.
The blind area must have a certain slope. In this case, it is necessary to make a drainage tray to drain water.
On normal soil, the width of the blind area (according to the rules) should be at least 60 cm. If subsiding soil, then at least 100 cm. The width should be about 20 cm greater than the overhang of the roof.
The concrete worker told a cunning way of the blind area
Many people think that making a concrete blind area is easier than ever. You just need to dig a trench around the house and fill up the rubble with sand.
First, rubble is poured into the trench, then geotextiles, sand. Then they are poured with concrete.
They think that such a blind area will be eternal. But all the water flows down and in the spring breaks the blind area from the house. She is no longer a part of the whole building, but in herself. Even if you lay the waterproofing from below, this will not save the situation in any way.
One familiar concrete worker told how to properly build a blind area so that it will serve for a long time and protect the foundation and the whole house from destruction.
There is one design trick. No need to dig a wide trench (unnecessary, useless work). It is necessary to drain water, and not to make a pit (sump) near the foundation.
Around the house you need to dig a small trench (20x20). See drawing and photo.
Then you need to install the formwork, remove the vegetation and fill the blind area with concrete. There is a closed, L-shaped blind area.
It is also called "tooth", "lock" or "boot". The width of the blind area is 1 m.
There will be no separation from the house, moisture does not get under the concrete and such a blind area will serve for more than a dozen years.
