What can be used to make equipment for grinding. How to securely fix sandpaper
When making small crafts out of wood, I often use sanding tools.
The small grinding drums that go to the drills did not suit me with their length. To increase the length, I combined two of these drums on one shaft.
Later I made a couple of sanding drums from the pressure rollers from old printers.
You can also make a similar rig from other parts of a similar technique.
But the drums are not the main thing. More interesting is the task of changing the sandpaper on such a rig. Gluing sandpaper in a spiral, as is done for standard drums of drills, seemed difficult to me. So I decided to just stick on the sandpaper.
I tried using 88 glue for this and it turned out to be a good idea. This glue allows you to securely fix the sandpaper on the drum, and also quite easily replace it with a new one. True, there are several nuances in this matter.
The worn-out sandpaper can be easily removed from the drum by picking it up with a knife. If the removal is slow, then it is enough to warm up the drum with an ordinary hair dryer. This softens the glue and the sandpaper is easy to remove.
Next, you need to clean the drum, cut off the new sandpaper, apply a thin layer of glue to the drum and sandpaper, wait a few minutes and press the sandpaper tightly onto the drum. For reliability, you can wrap the drum with an elastic band for money, wire, electrical tape or something similar and leave it for about 1 hour. The drum is then ready for use. Thus, having several such grinding drums, it is possible to prepare grinding equipment of different sizes, with different grains and in sufficient quantity for the job. And as the sandpaper wears out, it is easy to change it to a new one.
You can clearly see how to change the sandpaper in the video clip.
