In nature, everything is thought out. It gives us clean fertilizers and safe pest control products. And the main thing is that there is absolutely no need to pay for this! Today we will talk about onion skins. It is a powerful insecticide and highly nutritious plant food. Our interlocutor Natalya will tell you how to use onion peels in the garden.

Onion peel as fertilizer

I always collect dry onion peels, because for an avid gardener this is a real value. It serves both as a fertilizer and as a natural antiseptic. Such a sin to throw out!

Onion peels contain:

  • rare for fertilizers vitamins B, E, PP, which stimulate photosynthesis and contribute to the full development of plants;
  • a wide range of micro and macro elements such as potassium, nitrogen, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, manganese, iron;
  • carotene, thanks to which vitamin A is produced in the plant;
  • phytoncid is a natural antibiotic;
  • quercetin is a substance with pronounced bactericidal properties, which also has an immunostimulating effect.

I usually make a decoction from onion peels. This is the most reliable way to draw out all the nutrients from the source material.

Recipe: I pour 3 cups of dry husks with four liters of cold water, leave for 2 hours, and then put on fire and bring to a boil; I boil for five minutes and leave to cool at room temperature. I do not filter the solution and dilute it into two buckets of non-chlorinated water. I water them every two weeks cucumbers, tomatoes, eggplants, pumpkin, potatoes at the rate of one and a half liters per one bush. And also once a month I put a solution from a decoction of onion husks under fruit trees and berry bushes: under trees - 10 liters each; for shrubs - 5 liters each.

In the spring, while digging a vegetable garden, I must add onion husks to the soil. One square meter - 1-1.5 cups. So the fertilizer evenly saturates the soil with nutrients, and also reduces the risk of plant disease with black leg, powdery mildew, bacteriosis and all types of rot.

Onion peels from pests

From aphids, caterpillars, moths, spider mites and cabbage, the following recipe effectively helps: pour a full liter jar of dry husks to the brim with boiling water and leave for 5 days; then I filter the infusion and dilute it with water in a ratio of 1: 3, add 15 grams of crushed laundry soap, stir until completely dissolved. I spray the plants with this composition for three days in a row. This composition can be used during fruiting, as it is not toxic and will not harm vegetables, fruits and berries.

Onion peel is a powerful complex that nourishes plants and is essentially a growth stimulant. And also dry onion shell counteracts many diseases, strengthens the immunity of plants, which allows you to direct energy to the development of fruits and increase the fruiting period.
