Russian scientists have created a unique extra-strong alloy that can be used in aviation and high-speed trains

Scientific group from the National Research Technological University "MISiS" with the active support of scientists from the Siberian Federal University, as well as the "Research and Development Center for Magnetic Hydrodynamics" has created a technology for obtaining, which has no analogues in the world, heat-resistant aluminum alloy of ultra-high strength.

The created material in the future may well displace much more expensive and heavy copper conductors, which are used in various aircraft, as well as on high-speed electric trains.

Unique technology and new aluminum alloy

Russian scientists have succeeded in successfully developing and testing the technology for producing high-strength heat-resistant wire. In this case, the wire is obtained from an aluminum alloy, which was previously cast in the form of a long billet (1 cm in diameter) in a specialized electromagnetic catalyst.

At the same time, the engineers managed to create a thermally stable structure (up to 400 degrees Celsius), which greatly surpasses heat resistance of all known aluminum alloys that are able to maintain their original properties up to 300 degrees Celsius.

Previously, such alloys were tried to be obtained using a rather complicated and expensive process, which included ultrafast crystallization of the melt, the formation of granules and further application of powder metallurgy methods.

In the same experiment, scientists decided to use direct deformation of long wire (rolling and drawing) without using the now traditional method of homogenization and hardening.

And so to speak, the key feature of the new method was precisely the new casting and annealing modes, which allowed to obtain a structure from thermally stable nanoparticles in which copper, manganese and zirconium.

At the moment, engineers are working with the material to accurately determine all the physical and chemical properties. Despite the fact that the work is far from complete, the data already obtained are impressive for scientists.

So, according to the assumption of scientists, obtained using a unique technology, which will be in the near future patented, the material is quite capable of finding application in the aviation industry, as well as in high-speed trains.

In addition, such a cheap and unique technology may also be of interest to manufacturers of aluminum alloys and semi-finished products.
