The professor lost the $ 10,000 dispute to the blogger, as the second proved that the car can move in the wind faster than the wind

Physics lover, leading his channel on the vastness of YouTube, won the argument and enriched himself in the amount of $ 10,000 from eminent professor of physics, having proved that a wind machine is able to move faster than the wind when moving along to the wind.

An unusual controversy and its result

Such an unusual dispute took place between D. Muller (presenter of the fairly popular YouTube channel dedicated to physics) and professor of physics A. Kusenko (University of California).

The controversy was sparked by the experimental wind-powered land yacht Blackbird, namely statement that she is quite capable of moving faster than the currents of air that make her move.

So an amateur physicist released a video on which he performs a test of this yacht and explains how it develops a speed that exceeds the speed of an air stream.

This explanation was received with hostility by Professor Kusenko, who contacted the blogger and expressed his objections. Further discussion of the process resulted in a dispute for a fairly large amount of
10,000 dollars.

The professor explained this phenomenon due to the variability of air flows and argued that the change speed was made possible by gusts of wind and the usual inertia of movement, which carried the yacht forward. And in such a simple way, the feeling of moving faster than the wind was created.

But the physicist blogger was able to prove his case. But for this he had to, together with another scientist-blogger K. Foxlin to recreate a scaled-down copy of a wind-powered land yacht. And carry out a whole range of complex mathematical calculations.

And the thing is that the propeller in the design does not function the way most of us think. It is not a type of windmill, but a fan that pushes air backward.

This is due to the fact that the wind begins to move the installation from its place, thereby setting the wheels in motion, which, in turn, force the propeller to spin.

An already untwisted propeller creates additional thrust, which pushes the car forward, and this makes the wheels spin even faster and, therefore, increase the speed of the propeller. And while the wind is blowing, the apparatus is continuously accelerating.

After the tandem of bloggers explained everything in detail and showed the principle with a real example, the professor gave up and honestly transferred the amount of $ 10,000 to the account of an amateur physicist.

This is how amateur physicists bloggers were able to prove their case and even make good money on this. If you liked the material, please rate it and do not forget to subscribe to the channel. Thank you for your attention!
