Potatoes in July: "Be sure to feed
Do you want to harvest more potatoes from your hectares with one top dressing? Then a fiery salute, comrade, an inquisitive vegetable grower!
Today on the agenda is the fertilization of the deanery potato rows after flowering, which significantly increases the harvested kilograms of the crop from our population.. Don't miss the moment - read and feed!
What element is needed to increase the yield of potatoes
If 5 years ago a gypsy from a rural market had told me that I would feed the potatoes after flowering, I would, as always, have a fight with her. For almost the entire conscious part of the life of a gardener, I believed that the culture would have enough manure, which I so carefully scattered with a pitchfork in the fall.
But, comrade, evil fate brought me together with the agronomist Benjamin, whom I affectionately call Benik behind his back. Over a glass of tea, a man told me that it is after flowering, when the potato goes into the formation of tubers, it needs to be given potassium. This element affects the mass gain of root crops.
Therefore, I am pleased to offer you 2 options for potash feeding of potatoes. And they need to be done right now, so that the potatoes understand what they want from them in general and cope with the task by the end of the summer!
Option number 1: natural, simple, but less effective
Comrade! Forget mullein slurry or weed infusion. They will give nitrogen to the potatoes. Which she is now neither to the village nor to the city.
Better to rake out all ash - of all organic fertilizers, it is she who is more capable of giving potassium to plants. There are 2 options for using it:
- Fast acting. Make an infusion (at least 5 days) and shed rows of them.
- "Lazy". Scatter the ashes over the potato hectares. Necessarily in the rain or watering. Otherwise, the valuable ingredient will rather fly to the neighboring garden with the wind than act for its intended purpose.
Friendly tip: The end of flowering means that the potatoes now need almost no watering. Excess moisture will only call for phytophthora (holy, holy!)
With all due respect to wood ash, one cannot fail to notice. It acts weakly - in comparison with mineral fertilizers.
Option number 2 for garden greedy: effective, but it will take an hour or two
It is necessary and safe to use mineral fertilizers on your 6 acres. If citizens meet deadlines: usually 30-40 days before harvest. By the way, this is another reason always read the instructions and at least try to do everything right.
Potatoes are just a stone's throw away. Therefore, DO NOT sprinkle potash on the ground! The granules will not take effect immediately, and the top dressing will not meet the safety requirements in terms of time. It was my duty to honestly warn.
Better make a solution of potassium sulfate: 30 g per 10 liters of water. It does not contain equine nitrogen like potassium nitrate; and chlorine, like potassium chloride. First, dissolve the granules in a small amount of warm water, and only then pour into the total volume.
It remains to spray the potatoes with the resulting solution with a high concentration of potassium. Hope you have a garden sprayer. No - we take a broom in our hands and amuse casual observers. Bzdyn-bzdyn... And now the life-giving potassium has already sat down on the leaves of the potato. It will be absorbed by the greens almost instantly and the plant will enter the tuber collection mode.
Are you planting potatoes and the article was helpful? Click, comrade, "Thumbs up"! Sincerely yours, always swearing in the market, Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin.
