What I do with the Onion garden 3 weeks before harvesting to get an excellent harvest: I share 3 of my "tricks"
Do you want to harvest more and better onions? Then a fiery salute, a vegetable gardener greedy for success! Today on the agenda is the strategically important task of caring for the onion garden at the finish line. About 3 weeks before day X, I do 3 things with my plantings, and largely thanks to them I harvest an excellent harvest, becoming a kind of rural Chipollina.
You should not give your bow, which you cherished and cherished all summer, at the mercy of nature, fate, garden gods. Therefore, I put aside my diamond mosaic, which I collect in secret from my wife and son, and go out into the garden. Come with me, but don't step on the marigolds by the path!
And immediately the good news: now there will be less work
Approaching the bed of onions, we see that the feather is still green. Although in some places yellowness is already appearing, unequivocally hinting that the turnip will soon ripen.
But green vigor is deceiving. 2-3 weeks before harvesting, you can solemnly kick the watering can and stop watering the onion bed. Excess moisture will now make the bulb watery and, therefore, unsuitable for long-term storage. All the more so now, in Perkhushkovo, some kind of rain, but quite a bit, is beginning.
Make the bow "slightly better"
I have a friend whom I call "a little better." It is worth showing him the bike he bought / the first tomato plucked in the greenhouse / woman as he says: “Yes, I have this! Just a little bit better... "
And we have the opportunity to become owners of the bow a little better. Before the planned harvest, when the first signs of the vegetable's imminent readiness have already begun to appear, you need to slightly undermine the roots:
- Pry each row of onions with a pitchfork, lifting slightly above the surface.
- Citizens with enough free time can lift each bulb by the feather with their hands.
The meaning of this strange action is that the bulb will be left without root nutrition. And he will take it from the leaves. This means that more minerals and vitamins will pass from the feather to the bulb.
The final step for long-term storage
While you and I, comrades, were splitting watering cans in the garden and poking the onions with a pitchfork, it rained. August is arranged in such a way that, sooner or later, 3 weeks before the onion harvest, there will be a 99% probability of precipitation.
To prevent the onion from absorbing excess moisture, we carefully dig up each onion at least half. Being above the surface of the earth, it will evaporate water from itself, which can cause rot during storage. Plus, the top layer of the scales becomes keratinized, that is, it becomes hard, which prohibits the caustic, aromatic and healthy juice inside.
Are you growing onions and was this article helpful? Press, comrade, "Thumbs up"! Sincerely yours, hiding the diamond mosaic under the bed, Fyodor Tyapkin-Sklyankin.
