About the tomatoes twins Taiga and Tricolor

click fraud protection

There is such a topic: twin varieties. The structure of the bush, the type of fruit, even the taste does not differ. Is it so? Here are the Tricolor and Taiga varieties. Both are collectible, that is, agricultural firms do not sell them.

Both are from the same Canadian breeder (this is a woman, Karen Oliver). She crossed the same varieties, and received two different varieties in the second generation: Tricolor and Taiga. They differed in the cut, more green or less.

She stabilized the varieties for 8 more generations, and now these 2 varieties are in Russia. Recently appeared. I have one Taiga bush and one Tricolor.

Let's start with the bush

For a long time, the bushes were remarkably similar.

  • Both were very powerful in seedlings
  • Both of them split the stem, and there were two, and they grew like large slingshots

  • Potato leaf
  • The bushes had to be of unlimited growth, I have every meter and a half in height in the middle of summer

There are also differences:

  • Tricolor set more fruits
  • Taiga rose 11 days later, and the fruits ripened a week earlier.
  • Both tomatoes are prone to cracking, but in Taiga it is a little bit, in Tricolor almost everything is very important. The care is the same, only the beds are different.

Today almost all of the tricolor had to be removed due to severe cracking:

This cannot be called a big harvest, about a couple of kilograms in total (taking into account those taken earlier and one remaining).

They had to stop watering, anyway they did not have new ovaries. And I watered for the company, the heat!

About the fruits

Outwardly, the fruits are similar:

Taiga
Taiga

I wanted to write that Taiga tasted incomparably better. That Taiga tastes rich, great, with a gorgeous long aftertaste. But... only the first tomato was like that. Maybe because it is a little overripe.

The very same Taiga

The whole tomato looked like this:

And these are Tricolors:

Tricolor with a slight aroma, Taiga is not. On the cut, of course, both are pleasantly fragrant with something fruity and tomato.

Almost all tomatoes in the greenhouse, including these varieties, have a hard skin, apparently this is a feature of my agricultural technology.

Now we need to make an important digression.

The taste of a tomato depends on the growing conditions, for any variety it can be different even on the same bush. And the degree of maturity is generally a separate gourmet song. Therefore, my comparison is not very correct. Each variety has one bush, I compare what is.

Today, one tomato tasted sweet, the other was watery, simple, but tasty. Tricolor also has a different taste for each copy. No enthusiasm.

I taste several tomatoes from each bush (any variety), and there is often a significant difference. Sometimes they began to write on packs with seeds that such and such a result was obtained at an air temperature of + 25 ° С + 28 ° С during the entire growing period. And they advise to stop watering 2 weeks before removing the fruits, but I cannot yet, ripening is not amicable, some are ripe, others are poured. And the heat is serious, up to + 35 ° С

The color of each Tricolor and each Taiga is different, more red or less. The shape is not always a heart, there are simply flattened ones. In short, a surprise in every tomato.

Salad varieties, and I would say, for eating just like that.

For such amazing exotic seeds, thanks to Nina from the Nizhny Novgorod region, wrote about her here and Tatiana from Nizhnekamsk, in the comments, here

How do you feel about exotic tomatoes? And to the twins' tomatoes?

I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
