How do the means for cleaning the sewage system work?

Basically, sewer pipe cleaners work due to the high concentration of alkali in the composition. For example, in the notorious "Mole" the main active ingredient is sodium hydroxide. It is an alkali that has a corrosive effect on fats, food debris and other organic compounds that accumulate in sewer pipes. The PH of this product is 11.5 units. Is a fairly strong alkaline solution. From ordinary baking soda, we get a liquid that, in terms of PH value, will be almost the same - 10.5-11.5 units.

How to make a pipe cleaner with baking soda

The cooking method is very simple. You need to take 200 grams of baking soda (this is 7-8 tablespoons with a slide); heat it for 15 minutes in a frying pan or put it in the oven at a temperature of 200 degrees; cool for 10-15 minutes and dissolve in 250 ml of water. Then pour the resulting solution into the drain hole of the sink or bathtub, leave it for 1–2 hours and then spill the pipe with water. The blockage will be over!

Important! When heating soda, turn on the hood or open a window to ventilate the room. When sodium bicarbonate (soda) decomposes, some carbon dioxide is released. It is not dangerous, but it is better to organize ventilation.

How it works

Soda has an alkaline reaction, but if you ignite it in a frying pan, then this reaction will become much stronger and can easily remove the blockage in the pipe. Baking soda is sodium bicarbonate; when heated above 60 degrees, this compound decomposes into sodium carbonate, water and carbon dioxide. The most active decomposition occurs at a temperature of 200 degrees. Thus, by heating ordinary soda, we got sodium carbonate, or as it is also called - "soda ash". The pH of soda ash is 10.5-11.5 units. This acidity corresponds to the PH of many store-bought pipe cleaners and will cope with household blockages.
