Inexpensive modeling vise from Leroy Merlin. Device and what needs to be improved
I received this vice as a gift and the first thing I thought was: "This thing will definitely come in handy on the farm."
The vise is small, made of aluminum alloy. Easy to install on a table or workbench. The clamp to the table and the jaws of the vice have rubber pads.
The part of the vice, into which the part is fixed, can be turned and fixed at any angle.
But the vise out of the box has one drawback: rotation to set the desired position, sometimes with force and jerks.
When I looked closely at why this was happening, it turned out that the casting defect on the ball was to blame. The best option to eliminate this defect would be to walk over the ball with a file, and for this it was necessary to disassemble the vice.
As it turned out, they understand very easily. First you need to unscrew the screws holding the ball. This made it possible to separate the clamp with which the vice is fixed to the table. (scroll through the gallery)
Further, by rotating the vise handle, you can remove the movable jaw. And to remove the screw of the vice, it was necessary to unscrew the screw from the bottom.
All these manipulations made it possible to get to the screw that holds the ball and the cup, where this ball rotates.
As a result, the vise was dismantled.
With a needle file, I removed the protruding rib that remained after the casting.
I also had to sand the inner edge of the cup.
After such revision, it became easy and simple to use the vice.
