Living in a country house is more expensive than living in an apartment! I explain why
Where is it cheaper to live - in a country house or a city apartment? The question, it would seem, is not the essence, if we compare the utility bills of both types of housing. According to them, it is clear that the apartment is much more expensive. But not everyone looks only at the cost of a communal apartment. Our interlocutor Denis told why he considers living in a house an expensive pleasure. Let's make a reservation right away, we will talk about a country house, and not about one located in the city limits.
How they lived in the apartment
They have lived all their lives in urban high-rise buildings. The last home is a well-renovated apartment with an area of just over 100 sq. meters. Everything suited me: school, kindergarten - nearby; a large grocery store on the ground floor of the house; in the immediate vicinity of the mini market; public transport to all parts of the city; in the area there are shopping centers, gyms, a large beautiful park. In addition, it was not far from work for both me and my wife.
In general, they lived and did not grieve. There was only one problem - it was parking, but it was solved by a paid parking lot next to the house. Parking for two cars cost 3600 rubles a month. The average monthly payment for utilities was 4,700 rubles per month. In general, living in an apartment in a prestigious urban area cost us 8300 rubles, if we count with parking spaces.
Why did you move
His wife always dreamed of suburban life. She has a friend who lives in a country cottage. It was she who persuaded her to move. Arguments:
- fresh air and silence;
- your own yard with a shed and a garage - no need to think about where to park your car;
- sauna, swimming pool, barbecue area - no city entertainment needed;
- vegetable garden and garden - organic products;
- low payments for communal apartments - a house of 300 sq. meters is cheaper than our apartment.
Paradise, not life!
I explained to my wife that I would have to travel a lot, since our business life takes place in the city; you will have to take the children to school - all this is expensive. Did not work. The wife said that you need to endure for several years until the children grow up, and there life will become a suburban fairy tale. After some amount of brainwashing, I found a new 180 sq. meters on 10 acres of land 15 kilometers from the city, and we bought it.
How we live now
With the communal apartment, everything turned out to be true. We burn electricity, pour water, the house is warm in winter and cold in summer - and all this is exactly one and a half times cheaper. Also we do not pay for 3.6 thousand. a month for parking - good savings. But there are some nuances here, namely, significantly increased time and fuel costs.
Now I will calculate all this. We travel 5 times a week to and from work. At the same time, my wife takes my daughter to the institute, and I take my son to school (after classes, the children get home on their own). For one car, this is 40 kilometers a day. For two cars - 400 km per week or 1600 km per month. We travel this distance only to get to work and take the children to educational institutions. Further trips according to their needs, since there is nothing in the area. These are shopping and entertainment; trips to the gym and swimming pool; delivery of children to sections. I am not going to "conserve" in a country house and therefore cannot rebuild my usual way of life. For this, we drive another 600 kilometers a month. The total monthly mileage that we began to roll when moving to a country house was approximately 2200 km. We translate it into gasoline, and then into money. Consumption per hundred - 10 liters; we get that we need to buy 220 liters of AI-95 gasoline per month (50 rubles / liter) in the amount of 11 thousand rubles. We had expenses for gasoline before, but in the conditions of city life they cost exactly three times less.
I don’t translate a car to gas in principle, as I consider it to be a “murder” of a car engine. And our cars are not cheap and therefore a major overhaul will cover all the savings at once.
Now about the children. After class, they get home by public transport. And this is a journey from an educational institution to a bus station, and from a bus station to a village. For each of 60 rubles a day. Plus pocket money, as it takes longer to get home, and sometimes you feel like eating and drinking. This is about 6-8 thousand rubles of additional expenses per month. And, of course, precious time! I began to spend an hour and a half a day idling in traffic jams. In the morning everyone goes to work - there is a traffic jam on the road; in the evening everyone returns - everything is the same and the track is overloaded.
I am not against suburban life!
I like home, nature, quietness and general atmosphere. But we are completely dependent on the city and living in a country house becomes two and a half times more expensive when compared with living in a city apartment. And if it is not so important for us to lose the extra 15–20 thousand a month, then people with lower incomes need to think three times before leaving the city for the sake of a suburban paradise.
