Tell me, what did you do with the remnants of the "tile" after the renovation of the interior in your house? Returned to the store? Hidden under the bathroom or on the balcony? Or was it just taken to the trash can? I think that the majority will answer that they returned the "excess" to the store. Well, there is nothing to talk about - money during repairs is needed like air! But is this step correct?

Good afternoon dear friends!

I do not think! For there are cases, and not infrequently, when you have to change one, two, three tiles, but there is nothing to replace them with. And then what? Correctly, either completely change the finish, or make inserts - which is not so simple, and not so aesthetically pleasing! Therefore, I strongly recommend not to return the leftover tiles to the store, but to leave them until better times. And later, if it doesn't come in handy, make some simple, but very cool things out of it for your home. By the way, it is not at all necessary that it be a solid tile, you can also use segments!

In general, I will not beat around the bush, but I will tell you 5 ideas for turning unnecessary tiles into original decor.

1.Bookcase". Of course, you can't make a whole cabinet of tiles, but a small one that can hold two or three shelves is quite possible. You just need to make sure before starting work that it is strong enough to withstand the weight of the glued tiles. And then everything is simple! You remove all the shelves, put it on your back, lay out the drawing (carefully adjusting and cutting off unnecessary edges), grind, prime and only then proceed to gluing the tiles.

If you decide to experiment and decorate a large open rack in this way, then keep in mind that after the update, its weight will increase significantly. Therefore, so that it does not tip over, consider in advance additional fastening to the wall. And that's it!

2.Coffee table. Did you know that tiles can be used to make an excellent worktop, for example, for a coffee table? No! Then think about this question! Since this is a great opportunity not only to update a piece of furniture, but also to make it truly reliable. For such a tabletop is not afraid of scratches, moisture, or temperature... In general, almost nothing, and it looks very interesting.

And making it is not so difficult! First you need to lay out the tiles on the table with all the required gaps. As soon as the drawing satisfies you, it is necessary to protect all wooden parts of the table located around the perimeter with masking tape. The gluing process should start from the edges, gradually forming the first row, second, third. The center is stacked last. After that, it is necessary to let the glue dry, and only then proceed to grouting.

I almost forgot! Since the tile rises noticeably above the usual level of the table, you can make edging at the edges with the help of wooden slats or moldings.

3.Wall mirror. Do you still have mosaic tiles? Fine! It can make a new mirror frame. But first, you need to divide the tile into small components, from which the new pattern will be laid out. Always start composing the frame for the mirror from the corners, gradually spreading around the perimeter in rows. Their number directly depends on the size of the small tiles and your idea. When you draw up the final drawing and outline the outline of the mirror on the wall, you can start gluing.

I want to give you a little advice. If you are using rectangular tiles, lay them in a herringbone pattern at the corners. It will be easier and prettier that way.

4.A vase for flowers. Is there still a mosaic after the mirror decor? No problem! I suggest decorating a flower vase or flower pot with it. Just keep in mind that those containers that are made in the form of cylinders without bevels and edges are suitable. And the decor itself is simple to disgrace. You just need to cut the mosaic tiles in height and width. Then wrap it around the vase and glue the edges. That, in fact, is all.

One nuance! From above, it is better to fix the structure with masking tape until it dries completely, it will not allow the glued edges to disperse.

5.Serving tray. And finally, one more opportunity to show your handicraft talents in an unexpected way: by making a serving tray. To make it, you will need of course a tile, a piece of plywood of a slightly larger size and wooden slats, with which you will trim the perimeter of the product at the end of the event. So, first you need to glue the tiles to the plywood using liquid nails, while making a small indent along the edges. Then fill the joints between the tiles with grout, and only after it dries - attach the strip trim.

On the reverse side of the tray, it is advisable to install small legs made of wood, cork or felt. This will allow you to protect the surfaces on which the tray will stand from scratches.
