Complaint from a friend about potatoes under the hay

click fraud protection

It all started fashionably. Someone has successfully grown potatoes under the hay and away we go! Our friend also wanted to keep up with the new trend. For 40 years he grew potatoes, did not complain about the harvest. But what about without hay? Need to try!

It's good that only one row was taken for the experiment. The potato has already been earthed several times. And so the row was overlaid with mown grass. And under the grass... wood lice started up. First we ate the grass, then we got to the tubers. Some of the tubers were completely eaten. Others took a bite... That was where the experiment ended.

My opinion

Each agricultural application should have a clear meaning.

In the beginning it was like this. The man could not master the virgin lands, he lacked strength. And put the potatoes right on the turf. And on top, instead of earth, hay. He had a good harvest. And there was no need to huddle. The meaning is obvious.

In the case of wood lice, there was little point in hay.

  • Mixture of agricultural technicians often fails
  • Plus a different climate
  • And the enemy crept up unnoticed... Many fashionable agricultural techniques with hay crashed against the invasion of mice, slugs, and in this case, from wood lice.

My experience is even cooler

I also had a similar experience with potatoes, mixing agricultural techniques and hay.

  • I and Agrospan black put
  • I planted potatoes in the slot
  • And she separated the pen for potatoes with polyethylene so that the beetle would not fly in. So it didn't fly in until the wind tore off the polyethylene ...
  • And she covered the potato sprouts with hay instead of hilling.

So what? The Colorado potato beetle has become impudent. In the first wave, only the neighbors collected it, and in the second we were together ...

A lot of unnecessary work! And the result was not pleasing.

Have you been able to use hay when growing potatoes?

I would be grateful for your subscription and communication :)
