I wondered why my neighbor carries sawdust in bags to his house - and he, it turns out, uses it very widely

It's hard to imagine that in the modern world you can get something for free. Soon they will charge for air, everything around costs money. But it turns out that we have quite valuable raw materials in our city, which are given out completely free of charge - the main thing is to pick it up yourself. This is sawdust.

Several times I noticed that my neighbor on a trailer carries huge bags of building mixtures into his yard. At first I thought it was land, but then I saw that he was carrying them alone. I went to him to ask what it was, he showed me these bags in the fence, it turned out that they had sawdust in them. When I asked why he did so much, he immediately gave me a tour of his estate.

First, here in the yard, we looked into the chicken coop. There, on the floor, he had sawdust lying on which chickens walked. I did not smell any smell in the yard, although it is known that it is very strong from chickens. But sawdust perfectly absorbs the smell of droppings. Granular sawdust is also used in cat litter boxes.

Then he took me to the greenhouse. And there was sawdust on the paths, it was clean and tidy. Even if the soil fell on the paths, it mixed with sawdust and did not give the impression of being sloppy. I decided right away that I would do the same for myself. By the way, weeds do not sprout so much through them.

Then we went to the compost heap. There, mixed with grass, weeds, some other plant remains, wood shavings were also poured. The neighbor said that fresh sawdust in the garden cannot be used, it depletes the soil. But in compost - it helps a lot. Loosens compost, accelerates its maturation. Only, of course, you need to add urea, because wood takes up a lot of nitrogen during rotting.

Another application is for high ridges. On the bottom of a high ridge, he pours a layer of sawdust, and on it - plant residues, then manure and on top - soil. This cake is very popular with all cultures. Especially, of course, cucumbers.

I was surprised how widely sawdust can be used. The most interesting thing is that you can take it as much as you want in our leshoz, completely free of charge. Come, load in bags and take out. True, they are not allowed to enter the territory by car, you have to drag a bag on yourself to the gate. But the sawdust is not heavy, so there is no problem.
