Why buy a new one when you can repair and save money. Repair of the deflector (cap) on the pipe without welding
Last winter, in a strong wind, a deflector (cap-cap on the pipe) bent on the sauna pipe. If you look closely, you can see it in the photo.
It takes all the time to build a house. But I decided to fix this picture. Fortunately, there were still homemade stairs. Climbed up on them to the roof.
And I saw that the deflector was not bent, but practically fell apart. Spot welding from temperature and oxidation has not stood the test of time. 10 years have passed. The lid was held by only one fastener (it fell off from the branch pipe altogether), the rim also fell apart. Although it is a stainless steel, during this time this steel cannot withstand such conditions either.
There is no point in welding. Thin metal can be burned through. And if you manage to grab it, then over time, the welding will fall off again. Buy a new baffle? But this metal has not yet burned out. I decided to make bolted connections of its parts.
Drilled holes for M4 bolts, placing pieces of wood. In some places, corner supports were needed when drilling. Drilled with an ordinary drill. I was surprised that this stainless steel is drilled almost like ordinary mild steel. For example, a stainless steel spatula cannot be drilled so easily. Connected all the elements. I cut off the long bolts (there were no short ones).
I installed the deflector back. I think it will last at least another 10 years.
It would be possible to make the connections even easier - for self-tapping screws for metal, "seeds". But if there are bolts with nuts, then it will be more reliable.
If someone has powerful electrical contact welding, then the repair of such products can be done using it.
