Why can't you arrange a small apartment without mistakes? 5 most common reasons
Arrangement of a small space is not an easy matter. In addition to limited meters and a budget for repairs, we have to deal with an absolutely stupid layout and our own stereotypes, which dictate us to use solutions "proven" over the years. And as a result, money was spent on repairs, and I want to change literally EVERYTHING in the apartment.
Good afternoon dear friends!
And why? Yes, because most owners of small families and small-sized ones make the same mistakes. Which lead to the fact that an already tiny room becomes even smaller, gloomy, cluttered and functionally not well thought out. So, in order to save you from such an outcome, I prepared 5 gross mistakes that are common when arranging small housing.
Try to avoid them at least! And then your tiny apartment will delight you with its coziness, comfort and functionality for many years to come.
Mistake # 1. Dark colors. "If you want to look slimmer - wear dark" - this is absolutely the right phrase. Which works for the interior in the same way. For an apartment decorated in this way will also look much smaller. Therefore, remember that walls, floors, ceilings and furniture cannot be decorated with dark colors. It is better to make large surfaces light, then the space will seem a little more spacious than it really is. Small items such as chairs or ottomans can be black / dark.
But at the same time, you should not make the interior purely white. It is more correct to dilute it with pastel muted paints and medium wood shades.
Mistake # 2. Reckless space optimization. When arranging a home, you always need to focus on your lifestyle. For example, do not blindly abandon bedside tables if you really need them. Replace them with a functional headboard. Or do not buy a large computer desk if you often work at home sitting on the couch, etc.
Also, discard the usual apartment design templates. Is there a shelf above the front door or window? Great, set it there. Turn a cramped niche instead of a pantry into a home mini-office, and install a complete system for storing seasonal items and accessories in the hallway. In general, make sure that every corner in your apartment is 100% involved, but only efficiently and individually for you.
Mistake number 3. Savings on multifunctional furniture. Don't neglect her. Even if this furniture is much more expensive. As by giving up multifunctionality, you save on your comfort. And such savings will "haunt" you every next day.
But there is plenty to choose from! This is a partition with open and closed niches, and a wardrobe with a built-in folding table, and even a wall shelf that can easily turn into a small computer desk, etc.
Mistake # 4. XXL size furniture. No matter how much you would like to have a large sofa with wide armrests, a dining table for 12 persons or a spacious wardrobe..., alas, you will have to refuse them. Oversized furniture is categorically not suitable for a small apartment. It is best to choose something compact and small in height.
And yes, with tall cabinets to the very ceiling, you also need to be careful. They, of course, will fit a lot of things. But they can further reduce an already small room, suppressing their height. This effect will be especially noticeable in a room with a low ceiling. Therefore, if you need a large wardrobe, then choose the built-in option, decorated in the color of the surrounding walls.
Mistake # 5. Lack of individual touch. To make the interior the same "as in the picture" is also a so-so idea! After all, this is not a faceless hotel room, this is your apartment, even if it is tiny. She must have her own personality, zest. And it’s best if you can reflect “it” in the setting. These can be paintings, houseplants, photographs, embroidery, homemade blankets, pillows, and even a custom-made coffee table or headboard. There are countless options for furnishings and decor.
If there is nothing to decorate the house with yet, then rely on nostalgic interior elements. Place your grandmother's chest of drawers or old chairs that you recently refurbished with your own hands.
But remember about moderation, do not overdo it! Two or three items will be enough.
