Simple elements and a little "collective farm". What happened to my homemade gate after a while?
To do it cheaply, efficiently, and for a long time... These were my goals when I was just planning the construction of my house. But everything became clear, even at the stage of building the fence ...
Friends, I am glad to welcome you. When you are faced with the task of building a house, then all the rest, parallel work, seem insignificant, and completely unimportant (although, maybe it's just me so ???), Especially when there is no experience.
So the construction of the fence, at first, faded into the background.
And I decided to do it like this, by the way, during the construction of the foundation of my house.
But in the end, everything turned out not at all as planned:
- Tried to save money, and bought iron and wood at a minimum (I put the 40th corner on the pillars in general, boards from the 3rd grade, it took a lot of processing time).
- At the same time, it still took a lot of money ...
- Efforts and time wasted, out of proportion to expectations (work alone and without experience).
- For all that, some of the decisions were quite some kind of "collective farm" (although at first, everything seemed perfect). This is especially true for sliding gates, namely the mechanisms that are involved in their work.
The very design of the door without a supporting beam, the rollers and their arrangement are non-standard, the locking mechanism was also invented on the fly ...
But most importantly, what happened to all this after 3 years?
This is how the rollers on which the gate travels look like.
They are made from ordinary bearings, and of course the weather conditions could not pass by.
As you can see, the same corrosion and the frame itself, especially in the places of contact with the roller.
Somewhere there is more rust, somewhere less ...
But most importantly, the system works ...
β The rollers are spinning, the gates are moving.
β There are no distortions.
β And even my miraculous locking mechanism fulfills its function.
Usually, a special platform is made, on which the gate, when closed, is driven by a roller, and thereby slightly raised and fixed.
I did not do this, because of doubts about the fundamental nature of the entire structure (over time, everything can sag a little, move, etc.), so I built such a mechanism:
- First, you raise the edge of the gate with a pedal.
- Then you close the bolt that holds everything.
I already wrote my "know-how" about this in one of the articles, and many found it ridiculous. But after a while, the system works and does not fail, and the main thing does not distract from the main task - building a house.
But I would definitely like a better result ...
Do I regret the effort and time spent??? maybe yes, but just a little. Without mistakes and shortcomings, nowhere, this is only for some "experts" in the comments, everything works out the first time, and ideally ππ...
By the way, be sure to write your opinion in the comments. The advice and your experience are very helpful to me.
