Quartz laminate installation tips from the pros
Quartz laminate is an increasingly popular floor covering that has several advantages. One of them is absolute water resistance: the material does not swell like a regular laminate after prolonged contact with water. And it can also be mounted on underfloor heating systems, whether it is a water or film underfloor heating.
This is possible due to the mineral base of the material (the core of the die is an SPC-board). Hence the name of the laminate - quartz.
About the features of quartz laminate I already had article. Now let's talk about the process of installing such a coating.
I will tell you how to properly lay a quartz laminate and how its installation differs from the installation of a conventional laminate.
Preparation
Before laying the quartz laminate, the base must be prepared: the surface is leveled (maximum irregularities - no more than 2 mm in height for every 2 m). If there is a screed, then it can be primed - this will strengthen the upper layers of the surface, increase water resistance and bind the remaining dust, if any.
Next, we lay the substrate. By the way, it can be laid in stages, and not immediately over the whole room. This will prevent you from trampling it down with shoes or tools. A thin substrate 1.5 mm thick is suitable for this. Part of the quartz laminate was mounted - another layer of substrate was glued on.
Next, you need to sort or mix the elements of the quartz laminate from all the packs. This is done so that dies with the same pattern or shade do not appear somewhere in the most prominent place of the room.
Plates evenly distributed throughout the room with different patterns and shades look interesting, but a spot from the same in the middle of the room is not at all.
Styling
We expose the deformation gaps from the edge of the wall to 6-8 mm and start laying (if you have a warm floor, then the gaps should be at least 1 cm). It can be done in two ways: installation of a layer at once or installation of each element separately.
Layer installation - as when laying a conventional laminate: collect the layer along the short part of the elements and insert it into the lock in the previous row at once. On large areas, this can only be done together, or even three or even four. It is better to use the second method of assembling the coating by mounting each element separately.
Quartz laminate bends, so it will not be difficult to dock the elements - this is another of its distinguishing features from conventional laminate. Even in large rooms, the coating can be mounted alone. Whereas with a laying width of 6-7 m, it is almost impossible to lay a conventional laminate alone.
Quartz laminate is easy to cut. They do this: the upper part is cut with a knife along a metal ruler, and the tile itself breaks easily along the cutting line. No jigsaw is needed for cross-cutting. It is only needed for cutting corners or curved elements in a quartz laminate.
