How to use a regular stapler instead of a construction stapler: a useful life hack

Sometimes it happens that it is necessary to fix a film or fabric on the staples, but there is no construction or furniture stapler at hand. What to do in this case? Buying a new one for an hour of work? Not at all necessary. In some cases for such needs, you can successfully use a conventional stationery stapler. How to do it - read on!

Some "but"

Although stationery and construction staplers have the same principle of operation, these devices differ in power and performance. The stationery stapler is suitable for fastening fabric, dermantine, polyethylene, vapor barrier to wood (pine) and some wood materials. But it is not suitable for fixing PVC panels, wires, carpet, roofing felt or lining.

That is, a stationery stapler will not replace a construction stapler, but sometimes it will help out when, for example, you need to repair a greenhouse, fix a fragment of a vapor barrier or drag the upholstery of an old stool. So, for the sake of these matters, you can not buy a specialized device, but use an ordinary stationery stapler.

How to use a regular stapler to mount polyethylene and fabric

The stationery stapler uses staple # 10, 9 mm wide and 4 mm high. In the material, in this case in wood, it can penetrate approximately 3.5-3.7 mm (including fabric, polyethylene). The punching capacity of the staple stapler is 12 sheets of paper. This is not enough, and in a pine board or timber, and these are the main building materials, the bracket will go like clockwork.

All you need to do is open the stationery stapler so that nothing interferes with the stapler, rest the stapler on the material to which you want to fix the fabric or film, and gently press so that the mechanism worked. It is important that the pressure is smooth; if pressed sharply, the bracket may bend. And it should also be borne in mind that the staple stapler is smaller than the construction and furniture staple, and, therefore, the step between the attachment points needs to be done more often.
