In Germany, scientists have learned how to make artificial oil
So far, the only industrial plant in the world has been erected on the territory of Germany to create artificial oil based on the inexhaustible resources of nature. So, according to the Associated Press, the fuel created from artificial oil will be primarily used in the aviation industry.
Artificial oil and its prospects
This one-of-a-kind enterprise was built in the municipality of Veltre. The construction involved the non-profit environmental group Atmosfair, as well as such a notorious company as Siemens. At the same time, the construction was actively supported by the local authorities.
Thus, the created enterprise will act as an experimental platform for developing technology and practical proof of its effectiveness, as well as the profitability of a new synthetic type fuel.
Also, hydrogen will be produced on the territory of the plant (for this, water and electricity from four of the most nearby wind generators), and carbon dioxide will be extracted directly from the atmosphere and additionally from biogas installation.
The resulting components will then undergo a mixing step to produce crude artificial oil, from which jet fuel will be produced.
The thing is that when this fuel is burned in engines, it turns out that there will be emitted the same amount of carbon dioxide that was removed from the atmosphere during the production of crude oil.
Thus, the so-called carbon-neutral fuel is obtained, which does not violate the current balance of gases in the atmosphere.
So far, the price of kerosene created in this way is slightly higher than the price of fuel obtained in the classical way, and amounts to a considerable five euros per liter.
However, given the trend towards greening the economy and many industries, German specialists expect an increase in taxes on fossil fuels, which will increase the competitiveness of artificial fuel.
Starting from 2022, the refinery will be able to receive up to eight barrels of oil per day, which will make it possible to refuel a small passenger plane once every three weeks.
But once the technology demonstrates its effectiveness to everyone and gains trust, the scale can grow dramatically, which means that alternative fuels will be more affordable.
Well, whether the new technology for producing artificial oil turns out to be competitive, only time will tell. Well, if you liked the material, then rate it and do not forget to subscribe to the channel. Thank you for your attention!
