For the first time, Russia tested the Zircon hypersonic missile from a submarine
The Armed Forces of the Russian Federation reported on the first successful test launch of the Zircon hypersonic missile directly from a submarine. Up to this point, absolutely all previous launches were made from ship platforms.
The hypersonic missile was launched from the Severodvinsk nuclear submarine. The salvo was carried out against a training sea target, which turned out to be located in the water area of the Barents Sea.
So, according to the information received from the objective control systems, the flight of the Zircon took place in the normal mode, and all the parameters exactly corresponded to the calculated parameters. Based on the results of the launches, the tests were found to be excellent.
The footage of the Zircon launch was released by the Russian Ministry of Defense on Monday. And judging by the captured footage, the launch was carried out at night from the surface of the submarine.
The submarine "Severodvinsk" belongs to the fourth generation and was put on combat duty in 2014.

In February 2019, in a regular message to the Federal Assembly, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin said that the Zircon missile would be capable of hitting both ground and surface targets at a maximum range of 1000 km. In this case, the flight speed of the rocket reaches Mach 9 (Mach is the speed of sound). At the same time, Zircon will be based not only on sea, but also on land.
At the moment, there is simply no defense against the Zircon missile in the world. Military engineers of the Russian Federation are quite significantly ahead of Western specialists in the development of new generation weapons. And the serial delivery of "Zircon" to the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation should begin as early as 2022.
Well, it's nice to know that in the defense industry we are still ahead of the rest of the planet, which means that probable aggressors will think many times before contemplating any aggressive attacks to the side Russia.
