Russia has completed the design of a large telescope for studying the Sun
The scientific group of the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported on the completion of the design of a new solar telescope, in which the main mirror has a diameter of three meters. Work on the project took eight years, and at the moment the project has already been submitted for state expertise.
The new telescope and its future challenges
The telescope, which was named KST-3, is planned to be built on the territory of the Sayan Solar Observatory (Buryatia), and all this will be carried out within the framework of the project of the National Heliogeophysical Complex of the Russian Academy sciences.
I would also like to note that, it would seem, a Belgian company is actively involved in a purely Russian project. AMOS, onaya specializes in the development and creation of high-tech equipment assemblies, the main purpose of which is to carry out complex research.
Experts note that the new Russian telescope will allow us to study the atmosphere of our star in the smallest details, which is not available for orbiting telescopes, as well as for medium-sized ground-based telescopes location.
So scientists, thanks to the work of the new telescope, will be able to perform spectral analysis and collect unique data on magnetic fields and material movements. This, in turn, will make it possible in the future to understand the mechanisms of the formation of solar flares, as well as coronary plasma ejections.
The study of our Sun is important not only from a purely theoretical point of view, but also from a practical one. After all, if scientists understand the essence of all the processes taking place on the Sun, then it means that they (scientists) will be able to predict various natural phenomena long before their manifestation.
And this, in turn, will allow already on Earth to better prepare for possible cataclysms.
It is pleasant to realize that Russian science is developing and will occupy leading positions in many aspects.
