In the fall I add lime to the garden, because I found a lot of horsetail on the site
Autumn has come and you can calmly watch TV, play computer games, from time to time pondering how the next gardening season will proceed. At the same time, enjoy delicious preparations and drink tea with aromatic jam. This is how the picture looks blissfully in the view of summer residents in the summer.
But for the owners of their own houses, when the garden and vegetable garden are nearby, there is no peace. I would like to do something extra, work more, so that next year it is necessary to grow the crop with less effort and expense. Therefore, on short autumn evenings, after work, I spend all my time on the site.
I'll tell you about not the most common agronomic technique, which many neglect. And completely in vain, because it can increase yields by 50% or more. This technique is liming.
When to lime the soil and how to determine it
It is possible to determine that the soil needs liming by the fact that it becomes dense, does not loosen. Organic matter - manure and humus - does not rot for a very long time, remains unchanged. Plants suffer, grow poorly, yield decreases. In these cases, you need to do a soil test. This is done using special indicators that are sold in horticultural stores.
But I put it in a simpler way. From the lessons of agricultural work at school, I clearly remember that the horsetail is very fond of acidic soils, it simply does not grow on other soils. Therefore, noticing the growth of horsetail in the summer, I immediately realized that the field needs to be limed in the fall. This is done in the fall, before plowing. And it is desirable that there is no rain. Horsetail is easy to identify - it resembles a herringbone, a pretty plant. By itself, it is not harmful, it is simply an indicator of high acidity.
Benefits of liming
1. The soil will become loose, airy, structural.
2. The metabolism in plants improves, they receive more magnesium and other microelements, which, after liming, turn into a form accessible to plants.
3. There is more oxygen in the soil.
4. Soil bacteria multiply 2-3 times faster, processing organic matter and making it food for plants.
5. Fruits contain less toxins and more nutrients.
How I do liming
I bought a bag of 25 kilograms of dolomite flour in a store for 220 rubles. I definitely put on a mask, gloves, boots, old clothes. After all, a mass of dust is flying.
I put the limestone flour in the bucket, because it is very heavy and I scatter it in a handful with a wide wave of my hand. A handful of about 200 grams. The norm for 1 square meter is 350 grams. I throw in about two handfuls about a meter, everything is very tentative. Our soil is sandy. If the soil is clay, then the rate is 2 times higher.
Tomorrow the soil will be plowed and the liming is over, let's hope for its effectiveness. After all, in the USSR, it was not in vain that the fields were limed every three years. Let's follow the example of a great country in our area.
