Scientists explain the nature of one of the most powerful bursts of radiation in the universe

A group of scientists headed by N. Sarina (Monash University), showed that the burst of radiation recorded back in 2014 was triggered by the merger of two neutron stars, which, according to calculations, occurred at least 10.7 billion years ago.

So the burst recorded in the X-ray spectrum lasted only a few fractions of a second, but for this a short time, the energy that our Sun is capable of emitting within one billion was released years.

Our Universe and its mysteries

Contrary to popular belief, our Universe is not a silent space, but a rather "noisy" place in the entire electromagnetic spectrum. So transient flares in their brightness are capable of eclipsing the radiation of entire galaxies.

And among scientists it is generally accepted that they (bursts) occur as a result of fairly large cosmic events. For example, when a star is reborn or when neutron stars collide. Scientists also call such bursts "transient processes."

But sometimes astronomers register unique events, which do not fit into harmonious theoretical schemes.

Such an out-of-the-ordinary event was recorded X-ray orbital observatory "Chandra" in 2014.

The incident was named CDF-S XT1. At the same time, the surge was powerful and lasted only a few thousandths of a second. But as calculations have shown, in such a short time, a colossal amount of energy was released, which, for example, our Sun can release within 1 billion years.

Scientists have put forward a large number of versions of the nature of the origin of this outbreak, but produced the calculations and simulations that were carried out by Sarin's team showed that the most likely cause splash CDF-S XT1 was the merger of two neutron stars, which happened 10.7 billion years ago.

So far, this is the earliest merger of neutron stars recorded by scientists, but astronomers continue to tirelessly monitor and study the vastness of our Universe and what else they have to discover is unknown.
