Scientists working at Tyumen State University announced the development of a new technology that will significantly increase oil production at already developed fields. This will increase the efficiency of oil production, and hence reduce the cost of its production.

What is the essence of the new method and what is its effectiveness

Today, in order to increase production from long-developed fields, various methods are used, and one of them consists in pumping gas into the so-called oil-bearing reservoir.

For this, gases such as methane and nitrogen are mainly used. At the same time, in order for the process to be effective, it is necessary to use the purest possible gases.

A high degree of gas purification is now achieved through the use of devices called selective membranes. The gas mixture, passing through them, undergoes a purification process for the required gas and residual component.

Nowadays, the most commonly used membranes are of the tubular type, which consist of a large number of porous tubes.

But according to scientists, this technology is far from perfect, and in it, for example, the optimal distribution of gas concentration has not yet been worked out.

So the specialists of Tyumen State University decided to correct this situation, and the first in the world have successfully created a model of processes in a tubular selective membrane. This made it possible to significantly increase the quality of gas purification.

At the same time, during testing, scientists eventually received a concentration of the required gas of more than 90%, which, for a minute, is 10-20% more than existing modern technologies. In addition, the gas produced becomes cheaper, which ultimately reduces the cost of extracting petroleum products.

Scientists do not plan to stop there and are already working on new types of membranes.
