For many, the "dew point in aerated concrete" is the worst thing. Is there a real threat (otherwise my house is still unfinished)?

Some clever and incomprehensible words sometimes seem more real. Maybe that's why all the talk and debate about the "dew point" inside the walls never stops. Although most do not understand at all until the end of all the processes ...

Friends, everyone is a huge hello. Probably already many who come to my channel not for the first time think that I am an ardent supporter of aerated concrete. In fact, I just worked with this material with my own hands (built a house and without any experience), and I can draw specific conclusions only on some points.

  • Fragile or not.
  • How is he at work.
  • Are cracks appearing on the walls, etc ...

But there are things that you cannot see with your eyes, and you cannot touch with your hands.

And the concept of "dew point" just falls into this category.

This is the temperature of the air at which the vapor contained in it begins to condense. Those. this process can occur in any place where there is air (even in the smallest amount), and in the thickness of aerated concrete too.

And many are afraid that under certain conditions (temperature and humidity), this is moisture formation can affect the structure of the walls, and destroy them from the inside, although nothing will be visible from the outside until some since.

βœ” For example moisture freezes and destroys walls. And everyone likes to cite such pictures as an example.

But maybe not everything is so scary?

βœ” Most people start from the worst conditions. Yes, many have this habit, to paint a terrible picture in their heads, and to think that everything is so, and all the time.

But this approach can be useful when calculating the strength (peak moments that can lead to destruction), but the "dew point", in this regard, is not so terrible.

If you nevertheless decide to find out (calculate), moisture accumulates in the walls of the house, and in what quantity, then you need to build on exactly the average monthly indicators. One-day peak changes in temperature and humidity, and the amount of moisture that is formed in this case, will not affect the wall as a whole.

Those. it is necessary to accept that there may be condensation in the thickness of the wall, but here its quantity is important.

  • Humidity in the house.
  • Interior decoration.
  • Ventilation.

In my opinion, these three things most affect whether the dew point in your walls is in the right amount to harm.

If you have a bathhouse with unfinished walls, the windows are always closed, and ventilation was not planned, then of course in winter the walls will be wet and frozen through. In this mode of operation, they will not last long.
And if these are normal living quarters, with a humidity of 40-50%, while there is non-woven wallpaper on the walls, and there is normal ventilation, nothing threatens your walls.

It is important that the moisture accumulated during the winter period (when the dew point may appear), which, by the way, is not only in aerated concrete walls, but also in concrete and brick, managed to evaporate during the warm season. That is, to avoid oversaturation.

My house is even without any decoration.

And here moisture acts from all sides. But in the three years that it is so worth, I have not noticed any changes.

βœ… As aerated concrete absorbed water, so it gave back - that's the main thing.
