Decorative plaster "Map of the World" from putty: made repairs in the bedroom (cheaper and more beautiful than expensive wallpaper)
This room has long been in need of repair. Wallpaper in some places (near the window, door, in the corners) moved away and lime began to crumble under them. This is our fault. We bought a Khrushchev, which did not see any decoration (oilcloth in the kitchen, other rooms are whitewashed with lime, the walls of the bathroom are painted with oil paint).
We decided to quickly paste the wallpaper directly onto the untreated walls (with lime). The result is nothing good.
Instead of wallpaper, this time we decided to try decorative plaster. Wallpapers lose their beauty after 5-10 years. The term of decorative plaster is much longer. It can be washed and cracked (if any).
How much money was spent and how long it took to repair, see the end of the article.
First step: tear off the wallpaper (they can be easily removed) and clean the surface of the walls with lime with a spatula.
Next comes the deep penetration primer. We wait until it dries and apply a second time (optional).
After priming, you can plaster with a thin layer (walls are more or less even). I do this: I mix the plaster with putty (gypsum) in equal parts. I dilute it with water in a basin and beat the mixture with a perforator with a nozzle from a kitchen mixer.
Then I apply the solution to the walls. This is how it happened:
I begin to make decorative plaster near the window. I use the same solution (putty + plaster 1: 1).
I put the mixture on the trowel and with the other trowel I make a kind of spikes.
Then I apply it to the wall with one trowel with mortar and lances. Then I smooth it after 5-10 minutes with a clean trowel to remove sharp peaks. It turns out a plaster like Grotto:
Decorative plaster Grotto is also called the map of the world.
The next step was to choose the paint and color. I chose acrylic, deep-mat paint for the walls in the bedroom (bought in Leroy Merlin).
I didn't want a bright color, my wife and I chose a gray-blue paint:
The paint does not have a strong odor. Can be washed on top with a damp cloth.
Someone recommends to walk on top with varnish, but I did not. I like the matte color and no gloss. I also wanted to walk with mother-of-pearl on top (spread the primer with pearlescent pigment), ran it with a roller near the window, but did not like it (too obvious shine).
