How to assemble an efficient and economical heater from an old cast-iron battery: the correct diagram!
An old cast-iron battery is an excellent blank for making an economical and at the same time extremely efficient heater, which is suitable for heating a house, summer cottage, garage, greenhouse. This device is easy to assemble and operate. How to do it - read on. Do not forget to like and subscribe to the channel - we publish only useful and interesting content!
Required items
In addition to a cast iron radiator with a 32 mm thread, you will need:
- Heating element for the corresponding thread with a built-in thermostat;
- Mayevsky valve or emergency pressure relief valve.
Choose the number of radiator sections at your discretion, but adhere to one rule: for every 4 sections, the recommended power of the heating element is 500 watts. If, for example, your radiator consists of 10 sections, then it is better to install a tubular heater with a power of 1.2 kW in it, or, in extreme cases, two heating elements of 500 watts each. Heating elements with high power will quickly heat the coolant, which will provoke its frequent on / off. And this, in turn, can disable the thermostat.
How to assemble an electric heater?
Clean and paint the radiator first. This is not necessary, but if the heater is to be installed in a living space, then aesthetics will not hurt.
Assembly order:
- unscrew the cap from the bottom and install the heating element in it;
- diagonally from above, install a plug with a hole for Mayevsky's tap or an emergency valve;
- install the heater in the place where it will be located permanently (the installation should be carried out strictly according to the level - distortions are unacceptable);
- through the hole for the tap / valve, pour water into the radiator to the maximum level (so that it starts to flow out of the hole);
- install a Mayevsky valve or a pressure relief valve;
- power the heating element to the wiring and use a heater.
This device consumes little electricity, but at the same time has a high heat transfer. One four-piece cast iron radiator can maintain a comfortable temperature in a 12-18 square meter room.
Material in the topic: Alternative heating - infrared heaters.
About the coolant level
Water, or another coolant, must be filled exactly as indicated in the assembly order - this will achieve optimal fluid circulation in the heater. There is no need to turn the radiator over and fill it completely - there should be air pockets in the radiator! It is they who compensate for the thermal expansion of the heated liquid.
What to install - a Mayevsky crane or an emergency valve?
Of course, it is better to install an emergency pressure relief valve. Why? Answer: because if the thermostat fails, the heating element will begin to boil water in the radiator, this will lead to an increase in pressure inside the system and the battery may burst. If you do not watch the device, the valve will save the device from destruction. If propylene glycol or ethylene glycol is used as a coolant in the radiator, then a tube must be connected to the valve and taken out into the street. This is necessary so that vapors of these substances do not enter the room.
How to avoid an emergency with the boiling of the coolant?
When using a Mayevsky crane, an emergency can be avoided by installing an additional emergency thermostat set to a temperature of 80–90 ° C, which in the event of failure of the main thermostat will turn off the heating element.
Output:
- it is preferable to install an emergency pressure relief valve;
- less safe - to put the Mayevsky tap together with an additional thermostat.
