Did you know that many construction "chips" originated in Siberia? Some of them have remained in the past, and some have taken root, and they are still used today.

From the lessons of history, we know that the active development of Siberia began in the 16th century. It was then that everyone was allowed to populate uninhabited lands. Some went there voluntarily, and some under duress. Many serfs fled to Siberia in search of freedom and new life. Many were forced to travel by tsarist decrees, which gave certain benefits to the settlers - land allotment and lifting, exemption from the payment of duties and from the payment of arrears at the previous place residence.

When moving, people changed their place of residence and moved to a more severe climate, which had to adapt to. The first step was to build housing. There were many forests in Siberia. Then it was a free tree from which you could build anything. It was from wood that they began to build the first houses in Siberia. But all these houses had their own tricks, which the newly-made Siberians adapted to their needs and used for centuries.

1. Didn't use metal door hinges

At that time, wood was a more readily available material than iron. Therefore, the hinges for fastening doors and gates were made of wood. It was a good way out of the situation. Practical and affordable. Metal hinges were also used, but extremely rarely.

2. Roofs - without a single nail

All for the same reason - an excess of wood and a lack of iron forced people to get out of the situation. So the settlers began to make wooden roofs of houses without a single nail. They used overlapping log technology. This roof construction technology protected houses from moisture ingress. In addition, during the construction of the roofs, valuable solid tree trunks were used, sawn into two parts. As a result, the roof was thick enough. And the roof served without nails and screws - for several decades.

3. Earthen decks - also made of wood

Snow, rain, thaw - weather conditions that created mud in the yards. Every migrant wanted to fix it. No one can change the weather. But to make flooring is within the power of everyone. At that time there was no asphalt and paving slabs. Stone paving has already appeared, but was available only in large cities. Therefore, the flooring was made of a generally available material - wood. The bottom of the boards and logs was burned in order to prolong the life of the wooden flooring.

4. Small windows and low doors

The climate in Siberia is severe and cold. I had to adjust. To conserve heat inside the houses, Siberians began to build houses with small windows and low doors. It was a very correct decision.

5. The foundation is also made of wood

In wetlands, near rivers and lakes, in places with a difference in height, the construction of wooden houses required laying the foundation. In Siberia, instead of concrete and stone foundations, larch piles were used.
