Astronomers have recorded an unusual phenomenon. It turns out that from the central part of the Milky Way to our Earth with you, a significantly smaller amount of cosmic rays reaches, than should be according to theoretical calculations. This phenomenon may indicate that there is a certain "barrier" in the central part of our Galaxy, which prevents high-energy particles from moving.

Astronomers have discovered a " barrier" in the center of the Milky Way that blocks cosmic radiation

An unusual phenomenon and its probable explanation for the blocking of cosmic radiation

This is how astrophysicists call cosmic radiation various types of elementary particles, as well as heavy ions, which acquire a speed equal to almost light. It is these particles that pose the main danger to spacecraft and astronauts operating in orbit.

Some scientists speculate that cosmic radiation originates in the Milky Way in the heated remnants of exploding stars. Other experts suggest that cosmic rays appear in the nuclei and central regions of galaxies. Recently, several cosmic rays have been recorded that are of intergalactic origin.

So during the next scientific work, a group headed by a professor at the University of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Nanjing
Fan Izhong, recorded a strange anomaly in the role of the distribution of cosmic rays moving towards the Earth from the central region of the Milky Way.

Astronomers decided to measure how many cosmic rays that fill the Milky Way are generated by sources located in the inner region of our Galaxy, as well as outside it.

For this purpose, the "background" level was measured both at the outer boundaries and in the central region of the Galaxy, where there are more probable sources of radiation, and it was decided to compare the received emissions.

So, as the measurements showed, in the central part of the Galaxy in the area called the Central Molecular Zone, the cosmic radiation flux density was significantly lower than the expected level. But the distribution of energy in other areas was at the same level as in other parts of the Milky Way.

This phenomenon points to the fact that there are many sources in the Central Molecular Zone. cosmic radiation, but the particles they generate are blocked by some giant barrier, the nature of which unknown.

What is this object, which probably generates a particularly powerful electromagnetic field, scientists cannot even guess. There is an assumption that this object interacts with external and internal cosmic rays, preventing them from entering the clouds of gas or escaping beyond them.

Scientists hope that follow-up observations will still reveal this object. And scientists have already shared the work done on the pages of the journal Nature Communications.
