How to keep food in the refrigerator during a long blackout: a life hack from poachers

If you have a summer cottage or a small house in the village, then you are familiar with the problem of frequent blackouts. In villages and remote SNT, this is not uncommon. One of the main troubles of the lack of electricity is a non-working refrigerator, which keeps the cold for several hours, and then begins to "extinguish" the food. In the cold season, this problem is still being solved - the provisions can be taken out to the barn. But if it's hot outside, and even there is no generator, then either eat them or throw them away. But it turns out there is one proven way to keep food fresh when the lights go out for a long time. The problem of all dachas and villages

I have a dacha in one remote SNT. I took it for a country vacation, since there is a lake not far from the village, surrounded by a picturesque forest. The places here are wild, one might say, protected. Everything about this partnership is great, except for one problem: frequent and sometimes long power outages.

Since we visit there mainly in the summer and come at once for several days, a non-functioning outlet causes a lot of inconvenience. You will bring groceries for a week, but the refrigerator does not "fury". You will collect a basket of berries in the forest, catch half a bucket of pikes in the lake, and there is nowhere to save until you leave. It's a shame ...

And the problem has not been solved for many years - the partnership has no money for a normal new transformer, the lines are worn out, the breaks are permanent. A good wind will blow - a break in the line and at least a day, or even three, there is no light. The heat begins - everyone turns on the air conditioners - the transformer or something else in the substation burns out to hell. Electricians are in no hurry for repairs. In general, this is a disaster, as in many villages and remote SNT.

I do not keep the generator at the dacha, because here they will immediately "attach legs" to it. I swore to take it with me, but I want to take a boat, and bicycles for children, and more food. Well, I will not distract you anymore, but I will tell you about one simple and penny way, how to keep food for a day and a half if the lights are turned off. I learned this life hack from the Astrakhan poachers.

Miracle device and poachers

Once upon a time I was fishing in the Astrakhan region. And it was at this time that the "Putin" operation was being carried out there. Not V. V. Putin, and Putin - this is the name of the mass migration of fish. And also "Putnoy" law enforcers call the seasonal operation for the massive capture of poachers. So they catch them not only in the water, but also in the villages. And they do it in a very interesting way. The local huntsman told me about this.

Security officials turn off the electricity in the village for a couple of days and see which of the poachers went where. They do not keep the newsreels with fish and black caviar at home. A whole conspiratorial system has been thought out here: in the steppe, not far from the village, freezers are buried, a cable is drawn from the nearest pole and also hidden under the ground. Schron is disguised in the best partisan traditions - in the pit there is a box with a wooden lid, on which the ground is neatly laid. Such a cache contains from one to four freezers. This is something like cellars. As you understand, such a casket could store 50 or even 100 kilograms of black caviar - and this is a whole fortune!

So, the light has been turned off for the second day and the poachers are starting to get nervous - caviar is not gold - it will deteriorate instantly. And here the thought comes to them that it is necessary to transport the contents of the cache to a relative in another village. Well, so that the good is not lost! And so, under cover of night (during the day the area is patrolled by helicopters), they go to their bins, and at this time they are already closely watched by operatives.

When the product is in the car and the “client” is driving, it is taken red-handed. Arrest, prison; tears, snot, lawyers; and after the trial there is a good time. Thus, a decent number of Astrakhan poachers were caught in one year. The fish mafia suffered a humiliating defeat. Then they figured out this trick and came up with their own for it.

In general, they began to put several homemade cold accumulators in each freezer. In a freezer buried in the ground, they perfectly keep the cold for 2-4 days.

The next year, the security forces did the same tricks with turning off the light, but no one went to the caches. And it is also impossible to keep the light turned off for a long time - people complain to the governor, and he begins to give the security officials "a hat" for these tricks. In general, the next year the Astrakhan kosa-nostra no longer suffered such stupid losses - now their freezers, even without electricity, kept their products frozen for a long time.

How to make a cold accumulator for a refrigerator

All you need is a plastic bottle, water and salt. Instead of a plastic bottle, you can take boxes of juice or milk - they fit compactly. In one liter of warm water, you need to dilute a pound of ordinary table salt, then pour it all into a bottle or box, and put it in the freezer. I always have three 2-liter milk cartons in my freezer on the bottom shelf. When they turn off the lights, I just put these cold accumulators in the refrigerator compartment to the food on one for each shelf and don't worry that the food will deteriorate within 24 hours or even more (depending on weather). And in the freezer, the cold keeps well.

These batteries perfectly keep the cold in a de-energized appliance and allow you to keep food fresh even in hot weather. On weekends, these primitive devices helped me out a lot. But there is one condition - the refrigerator door does not need to be slammed every half hour. In general, always keep several containers of brine in the freezer and, if the power goes out, use their cold to preserve the food!
