The people at home were outraged because of the new switches: it turned out that they had installed the wrong
In the summer, I made repairs in the house and replaced some of the switches with new ones. I installed the voltage, clicked, everything works. Okay, I think I'll go further to do the repairs.
After a while, my mother indignantly declares that I set the switch incorrectly.
— How wrong it is. Everything works, the light turns on and off. What else is overO. I say.
— You need the light to turn off when you press the switch down. - says mom.
Here the wife joins the conversation.
— That's right: it should turn off down.
For me, it works and okay, but you can argue with women. I went to redo.
Having turned several switches into the desired position and grumbled about the fact that no markings were found on the switches themselves and you can put them at least sideways, I still remembered this rule: turn off the light should be down.
How right
Later I decided to see how everything is correct. In SNiPs and GOSTs, I did not find clear recommendations for installing light switches. The only close indication was found in the PUE 7 clause 4.1.9 - “Chopping devices must be installed so that they cannot close the circuit spontaneously, under the influence of gravity. Their movable live parts in the off position, as a rule, should not be energized. " But a switch is not a switch.
It seems that it was the rule about the installation of circuit breakers that secretly passed on to all other types of switches. The circuit breakers in the panels are installed exactly like this: up - on, down - off.
On / off switch or on / off switch
When I was looking for how to install the switches, I came across the topic: why exactly a switch, and not a switch or a switch.
Several versions are being put forward.
For example, I read the version that at the beginning of electrification, the voltage was applied for a short time and the turning on of the light bulb did not depend on the consumer, but everything had to be turned off.
Or that these are features of the Russian language. For example, there is a "screwdriver", which can not only be unscrewed, but also screwed. Or the “locker room” there is not only undressing, but also dressing. So is the "switch" - turns it on and off.
In general, it was curious to read these versions. Moreover, there are no unambiguous statements in their correctness.
Maybe you have your own version on this topic.
